Use a little restraint please
« on: August 13, 2008, 01:01:00 am »
I  know with the advent of the Octarchal Crackdown, people are dying to test the new guards but please use a little restraint. The GM team doesn't have enough people to back the settings of effective guards for the time being and they really can't respond to everything, especially with the events going on. There has been a major up swing in disruptive behavior and out right crime since the crackdown but it really should be the reverse.

I'm not saying don't do as you were inclined to do if you character is on the wrong side of the law but please don't be excessive. In line with the settings, someone going around killing up a bunch of people would have to be crazy because they would be caught and brought to justice very fast, but the GMs can only be in so many places. Same with harassing the public to get the guards attention, they can't be everywhere.

Hey don't look at me! For once my hands are clean of any evil doing :P

Personally though, I think the fact that more people are being evil because the guards are out is a bit OOC. I've not been ingame enough so say there is more evil activity or not but if there is then thats silly. Why would more thieves and robbers show up when the guard becomes more active? If anything evil should lessen or become more hidden.

It could be that they are getting flushed out of their usual holes and getting a bit desperate with nowhere to turn. That would cause them to take more chances.

Of course you have to expect people to try and embrace new content be it permanent or transient.

Define "evil" when you can't actually kill anyone except by consent...

My bigger issue is with the non-'evil' characters who are suddenly finding it irresistible to confront the guards and even attack them. That is an act of TREASON folks, and by rights, your characters should be imprisoned and executed (read that as CHARACTER DELETION). The GMs do NOT want to do that, but some of you are coming very close to forcing them to it.

Ok, it's true. justice is justice. It's a usual medieval thing execute "evil people".
But don't kill everybody: RP exist (existed, 'cause it's dead  ;)) 'cause of the conflict between evil and good. There should be kinda 40% good, 40% evil 20%.. neutral!  :D (often Gaian is neutral, a bit with the good people a bit with the evil one  :P).
Ok, kill some of them, 'cause there is scarce goodness, but not everybody. just the worst  :)

I think people just need to learn that they need to treat the guards realistically, IC.  You wouldn't walk up to a police officer and attack him or her without expecting to be arrested, so... yeah.  Same idea here.  It's not interesting, it's not clever, it's not really even all that 'evil'--it's just taking something very cool that the GMs have provided (live, interactive officials) and bogging them down with Mary-Sue-ism (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33351.0;topicseen).
