I'm all for a good roasting now and then. But at least make it creative. This came across to me, not as "How bad does this suck?", but rather as "How lame can we act in-game and get away with it?". You can read their research thread here: http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2919963

Btw, I agree with LigH: a real "non-starter".  ;)

My Specs:
Model: HP s3230
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU E4500 2.20 GHz
Graphics Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 2400 [HPvs19]
Memory RAM: 2.00 GB
System Type: 32-bit OS

I like how Khad doesn't mention how one of his goons actually enjoyed the game.  And yeah, it does seem stupid and malicious to "review" a game by seeing how they react to trolling, but I guess we shouldn't expect mature behavior from someone who's avatar is a vomiting banana.  Either way, no harm done.  Well written Underthemoon, and I for one am pretty proud of how we handled this.

Hey, we only got -50 - that's better than most of the MMO Roulettes I've read. :P

I had a brief encounter with one of those trolls, I think. When he mentioned something about bathing in blood, my immediate thought was, "Oh god, SomethingAwful's found us", thus I laughed when I noticed this thread. I'll admit, I get a giggle some of SA's articles, but the MMO reviews tend to be pretty lame.

Good job handling those guys. Hopefully we don't get more trolls, though. Also, had I not already been convinced that every game should have a tutorial that requires heavy reading, I would be now. >>;

Very well done UtM.  :)

I thought their article was kinda pathetic...  I mean, the reasons above, but also the fact that he posted a whole page of lame trolling and a guy acting like an idiot....  >.>

Perhaps they would've just done best to not review PlaneShift.

(Hint for SA:  TROLL BETTER.)

Some people only look for the bad things in everything. I think noone should give a sh** about opinions from such people. I do not even pity them for their destructive attitudes. Let them continue to declare things as awful and leave them alone. I do not know such people who play Planeshift. Why bother?

Well well, I see Khad wimped out and posted his review two days early. I was not aware of it yet when I wrote and posted mine. I had mine written half a week ago as a 'progress' report on the trolling so far, but got too busy to make final edits and post it. Anyways, I just sent Khad an email I would like to share with the class.

Quote
Hello Khad. I see you posted your article two days early. I must say, you should have spent those two days revising it to make it a bit more, well, funny. You came off as a crybaby who could not get the candy he wanted. I'd like you to have a look at this thread for our 'reactions' to your trolling:

http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=33367.0

Frankly, we owned your ass. I did notice you neglected to mention that some of your 'trolls' actually had fun playing and roleplaying, and have returned to the game to play, rather than troll. They might even become regulars. Your MMOroulette has the smack of EPIC FAIL on it this time. But, I assume your pride will not let you link to that thread in your article. You do not like the idea of your people getting bested at your own game.

Am I angry at your article? Hardly. I find it just as amusing as watching your rats run our gambit. You came off as pissed and whiny, rather than amused at the pranks you were playing. You really put a poor effort into the entire thing. We got the jump on you this time. Maybe you should come to us for pointers on trolling your next game. We did have something else planned for your goons, but since you wimped out and posted your article early, we had to call it off. Even Induane was in on it. Would have shown your lame trolls how its done.

Anyways, hope you do better on your next roulette. Cheers!

ps: Even more amusing is the fact that Talad (Salad to you) was on vacation this entire month, and will not get back until the end of the month. Perfect timing. You really put it to him.

Hell, we even beat him in article 'funny'. I give Khad and Co.

-10 in effort for not trying hard enough.

-5 in funny for being vaguely funny, but not enough. It might have been a +5 if Khad did not get a -10 all by himself.

-20 in intelligence for not being able to come up with much more than the typical lame trolls we get every week, and for not being able to get through the tutorial even with a walkthrough. Would have been -10, but Khad adds an extra -10 to that for being their leader, and not making it in himself.

-15 for originality. Khad and Co. used pictures of us making fun of ourselves for his 'fanart' pictures. Brilliant. Just post the link to thread next time.

-20 for Timing. This is the final nail in the SA coffin. Not only did he decide to review the game during a rather buggy release (which could have been found out by looking in the forum), he started it while Talad was, and still is, on vacation. Bravo!

-70 in all. All in all, a really dismal and disappointing outing.

No, I say we go to #peragro on Freenode and slap Induane whenever possible.  You forget he called you a furry, but then again I hear you have IRC-phobia anyways.  Oh, and for everything I did concerning this, you're welcome.

Thought I would mention that Induane and I have resorted to falcon punching each other.  This could get very violent.

Also, I think I should say that MMO Roulette has its own IRC channel, called #mmoroulette on irc.synirc.org which is 18 and over.  I have been lurking in this thing since the third of August, and let me just say that it is very inactive.  Also, I've never seen them talk to each other; the only time they've ever engaged in conversation on that channel is with one of us.  Heck, I don't think Khad even knows this IRC channel exists.  I don't even think Khad knows what IRC is.

But alas, when one of them does show up in the channel, I either talk to them or I assist them with the installation (I assume they all use Windoze).  One exception is what I did with this kamoc guy, which was absolutely nothing, mainly because I've interacted with him the day before and I didn't want him figuring out that one of the NPCs he interacted with was smart enough to leave the game and come directly to him on IRC and give advice.  This is the same guy that Khad used in his review, the one who couldn't get out of the Death Realm.  I am leaving the timestamps in this one to show you guys when this happened.

Sticks and stones.. sticks and stones.

And if I'm ever needed on IRC, I can be, except if I'm at work, as they have decided that employees should be working at work, rather than being on IRC chatting.  :)

To me, it was just a silly article and while it was amusing to egg the SA goon crew on for the time they were here, it's over and I just think it's time to move past the incident.
