Offline Play
« on: April 19, 2003, 07:36:40 am »
being a 56k user i can\'t be online all the time and
somtimes i got a hankering to play it and i can\'t
go online i\'ve heard your going to be able to play
PS offline which would be fun

I was hoping/begging   (not ordering) that somtime
during the MB release that you could make the option
to play offline nothing speacil just run around the world
with any character just for the fun of it

anyway hope you fix that lag bug and good work you
guys are making a great game

well it should be possible to play offline...although I haven\'t tested it (guess you need mySQL for that)

You just have to run your own server I think (don\'t know if thats allowed by the planeshift licence, but if you don\'t go online with it there should be no problem)

I think it says that PlaneShift will only run on official servers i\'m not sure if this means that your only going
to be able to get onto a offcial server or that your not aloud to.

+ don\'t you have to install on the server for you to play
planeshift on it.

You can run your own offline/online server if you want to, but you cant use any Planeshift stuff (That\'d be NPCs, Items, What-so-ever) in it, as it is under the Planeshift license. :)

I think I\'ll just wait for the option to play offline rather then create my own server and break the rules

There is no \'offline\' play feature.  Would not make sense for a MMORPG.   :)

If you want to run your own server for testing purposes then that is no problem.  We just don\'t build a \'release\' server since we make minute adjustments to the server as needed and it\'s something that we don\'t really want ( have time! ) to support as well.

If you played offline, you would be able to hack your character easily and cause the game to suck for everyone.  Either that, or you wouldn\'t be able to play your offline character online.  Besides, why would you want to run around in a massive world that has nothing in it but you?

You will always be here,
You will never be there.
Although you may strive to get there,
upon reaching there you will realize you are really here.
And there is everywhere else.

Stop! You\'re making me depressed!  ;)
If it can be of any comfort to you, you will propably have ADSL or something when PS is fully released. :)  (why would you play offline anyway?)

BTW. I\'ve had a 56k modem too, so I know how you feel. :(
