Loading region failed.
« on: August 18, 2008, 01:33:02 am »
Well first I got this error when I walked into some area in the wilderness. Then I updated the game and ran it. Joined the server, picked my character, clicked join, and before I get into the game it says loading region failed, and my client closes.

FYI: I downloaded the updater from the DL page where it says "Known problems in 0.4.01" and changed the updaterinfo.xml from false to true, then ran psupdater in my Planeshift folder, it said Updated successfully and I ran the game, then got this error as explained above.

Also, I don't know if this might have caused it but, I opened the client without closing my old one, so I had 2 clients opened for a minute or so

Thank you for reading. And I hope you can help me.

This has happened once to me too  ;D. You have to close your client while you are updating because it can't patch your psclient.exe properly if it's still running.

And I got the same error with "Loading region failed". My solution of the problem might not be the best but at least it worked. I removed the last line in updaterinfo.xml that started with version name="...." and run the updater again. It had to redownload a lot of files though  :'(. I was like "what have you done! ahhhhh!"

The last line with version name =".." is:

Quote
<version name="0.4.01.14" md5win32="95bfb6623aeca508ef186f29e3ab82dd" md5linux32="66d83527fa1c18a2b4d0755f81fea840" md5linux64="c08bd8533164c45d04cc3f1f926f8df7" md5macosx="269fb475c30996c3c2bc86d70bdfe7a0" md5macosx1039="e738061f10a955b0b82b0c2717b45803" md5generic="d2c814f751e2040bb05ed2be08fc323f" />

It's the one you need to remove and save the file afterwards. Then run the updater again.

Hello everybody, I'm a new player and I also get the error "Loading region failed".

I tried the steps in this thread with no luck. Here are the steps I did so far:

Installed game.
Replaced original psupdater.exe with the one on the download section of homepage.
Removed last line in updaterinfo.xml.
Ran psupdater.exe.
Ran pssetup.exe and made sure preload maps is disabled.
Ran psclient.exe.
Loading region failed...

I tried unisnstalling the game and installing without any patch with no better luck...

Could anybody point out what is wrong with my procedure?

Thanx a lot, I can't wait to try out this game, it looks really nice!

If it's your first log-in, you are either loading the tutorial map or if you have already finished it, a region depending on the race of your character. What's the race of your character?

It is my first login. I created a hammerwielder (male).

Incidentally Fragnetics looks down since a couple of days, so I can't test any new ideas.

Removed last line in updaterinfo.xml.
Actually you didn't need to remove that line because you haven't tried to update with your client still running (if I have understood you right) ;)

Have you tried updating the drivers of your graphic card too?

When you first log in, you'll load the tutorial map and when you finish it, the Hydlaa map since your char is a dwarf. Unfortunately I have no other idea atm about how to fix the "Loading region failed" error  ::|. And yes, the server must come up before we can try anything...
