Overused/Over Discussed Topic List

Wish:

A companion sticky to the greatly important sticky:       WISHLIST RULES - Absolutely MUST read!

This would be a nice big list of very commonly wished for things that are commonly suggested or have been over discussed.  The incredible size of the wishlist forum that has grown over the years is a daunting chunk of text to delve into in a search for certain things as it may not always be readily apparent that one can search only in certain forums, at least not at first.  Its fairly common for people who are new arrivals to play a bit, have a few ideas and come post without doing lots of research.  I'd bet its a common first post forum though I can't be certain of that.  In any case as I said, I wish for a list of common/overly discussed topics for people to not waste their time with.

off and on for the past 2 years i have been going through each and every thread in the wishlist area and organizing them and the plan is to eventually set up a index thread and sticky that.  just haven't gotten it done yet. 

moving this to the forums section as it fits better there

Just a thought, if so many people start the same, or similar threads, without researching, how would a list of over used, over discussed topics change that?   I bet those who start threads without searching wont search for which threads are over used, over discussed.

not to say could not be done, I just question if it would work as a preventative.   always nice to have the link to drop in response though, eh?

Just thinking out loud here... but i know people tend to get a little testy when their posts are deleted... so is the following possible? desirable?

Once things are sorted...

1. If a duplicate is started, lock it as duplicate
2. Move to a "Duplicated" sub group in the wishlist forum.

Also, one other suggestion...

If a topic/wishlist item is generally accepted as "going to be included Soon(tm)" or even just someday, move it to a sub-topic of appropriate name and reference it in the wishlist rules section.

Please don't take this as a complaint, just some random thoughts since the question was asked...

You're right that it wouldn't always work as a preventative, but I do believe it would lower the volume of them somewhat which is helpful to the mods.  The real question is whether or not the work involved would be greater than the work saved and that I just don't know for sure.  Thats why we have discussions Or as is usually the case with me, arguments!

You are correct in your assertion that deleting threads makes people testy.  Their initial emotional response is that the mods don't want them expressing themselves or that their ideas are unwanted or bad.  Your idea isn't a bad one, I don't really know a great solution to that but its something worth thinking about as it conveys a wrong message to people who aren't as indoctrinated in the way things work.

The point is, I believe, that they waste valuable space and the time of the people posting.
