I don\'t believe *anything* is scheduled, i.e. the mac version will be released when, and only when, someone puts it together.  I may try compiling from CVS, but I really don\'t have enough RAM to make it worthwhile.

Nothing is scheduled, although someone namely lightyear started working on the mac port a couple months ago. He hasn\'t been on these boards the last month, or at least hasn\'t posted anything with regards to the mac version in the last month. Back then it seemed like things were going pretty well, but maybe not. Doesn\'t seem like anyone else knows anything.

Here\'s the thread:

http://www.planeshift3d.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=2815&boardid=1&styleid=2

I hope they didn\'t decide to wait for OS X 10.3 to come out in september that was the last thing he talked about. Apparently 10.3 includes improvements to apple\'s openGL implementation. Maybe they were just waiting for 10.2.5, although that\'s been out for a couple weeks now? I heard that also has openGL improvements.

I\'m just speculating, there hasn\'t been much to go on lately. Back then I had the impression it was a matter of weeks.

Sorry, I\'ve been a bit incommunicado as of late.

1) Actually, I have been waiting for 10.2.5.  :)  However, today\'s the first day I\'ve been able to sit down and do any work on getting a build up and running, so it\'ll take me some time to get the tests ready.

2) Once I\'m satisfied that it\'s running, I\'m going to have to muck about with some of the build process to do static linking of some of the external libraries into the CS plugins, so I\'m not distributing a million .so files along with the .csplugin files, and app-wrap the lot.

3) Then I\'m going to need to take the whole thing and move it over to the laptop to see how it behaves on a non-development system.

Those three stages will hopefully be done by tomorrow, and I\'ll have something ready for download and play.

At that time, I\'ll give you a better idea of what you can expect performance to be like, but again, I emphasise that until 10.3, the old rendering system won\'t get us fast-path in a seemingly large number of cases.  Having said that, I\'ll do my best to try and figure out from feedback if additional MB releases can provide us with improved performance as I get feedback from people on their problems with MB on their system.

Thx.

:plur,
Greg

Still mangling the build system trying to get a more-than-short-term fix for building MB on the mac together for the jam build; nearly there.  Sorry for these vague sprog-gress reports, but we *are* close.

Ok, despite the tradgedy of the rapid weekend flight I\'m still looking forward to the great reckoning when us mac users invade planeshift! :)

What can i say i\'m getting into character. ;)

Anyways for all those mac users out there painfully anticipating the release of the mac version I have a small suggestion to tie you over. Check out http://www.macgamefiles.com download the ThinkingTanks demo and join in on the carnage on the net, it\'s hillarious! To everyone else it\'s only for mac, so there :P

Hehe... yes, ThinkTanks is great. To everybody else, get it when the Windows and Linux version comes.

As for your work Lightyear, can\'t wait til it\'s done. I really want to check it out. But since we\'re nearly there, ThinkTanks will help me endure the wait :P

Status report:

I\'ve packaged up the 010 release, and we\'re good to go, except for an endian problem with the network code that causes problems with Intel-based servers, such as those which provide the game world most players will be using.

However, I do have the planeshift.app working correctly now, and all content is currently bundled into it correctly - so we\'re close to being ready for testing and eventual release.
