hmmm, the updater should download the openal.dll file. and if you open the xml file with notepad, it will mess it up once you save it. (or it did for me) word pad had problems so i had to use C++ to edit the xml file. X-/lol

Yes I have read that post over and over and I have read many others but still had problems with the game, but while doing my updates for the past god knows how long and it constantly saying there are new updates available I now know why...

For those people still stuck... :sweatdrop:
If you have followed the above and it keeps saying you need to update its not your fault! This may look hard but it's easy to be honest, just follow the next steps.  :D

[INFO]
What it is, is that the updater updated one by one not all at once... this means that the first time you run it, the uptader will download...
version name="0.4.00"

the next time you run it the updater will download...
version name="0.4.00.1"

and so on and so forth.

The list of updates can be found here - http://www.xordan.com/psupdater/

when i last looked this was the list..

Now if you still following this heres a few steps to help you find out what version you have and how many times you need to update  :woot:

Step 1...
Open up the directory you installed Planeshift to eg C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Steel Blue or C:\Games\PlaneShift Steel Blue depending on what you did for step 2 in the above post.

Step 2...
In that folder you should see a file called updaterinfo.xml... right click it and choose open with. Then choose notepad or wordpad.

Step 3...
You should now see a text document saying

<config active="true">
    <mirrors>
        <mirror id="1" name="psmirror" url="http://www.psmirror.org/repo/" />
        <mirror id="2" name="xordan" url="http://www.xordan.com/psupdater/" />
    </mirrors>
    <updater version="5" md5win32="09402c47615f480ba780e490d26c1f7b" md5linux32="1d4036c392c6fef5219afd3ce85b1d41" md5linux64="63b74fcf6d69e348020208054c7a7629" md5macosx="2b1fa3d1c44f2961cd1c7d7608106810" md5macosx1039="77e81133303fea8fbe2baef456a18c44" />
    <client>
<version name="0.4.00" md5win32="ce76fa5127532ed1aeb69921316605e7" md5linux32="3fa44e9769af561caecfc8752fa38808" md5linux64="d081fd3f95433a0eba9259b10607abd9" md5macosx="7e2105679a7f8e419038073ddb01c47e" />

..........................................

Step 4...
Where it ses version name="0.4.00" underneeth it should be a few more lines of version name= The last version name= will be what update you are on.. eg

<client>
        <version name="0.4.00" md5win32="ce76fa5127532ed1aeb69921316605e7" md5linux32="3fa44e9769af561caecfc8752fa38808" md5linux64="d081fd3f95433a0eba9259b10607abd9" md5macosx="7e2105679a7f8e419038073ddb01c47e" />
        <version name="0.4.00.1" md5win32="42e1a6d8e1bb72b9f62b6fcd3fc6aeef" md5linux32="9b4c6471539d77306911ea355fc39b1a" md5linux64="16e412ddfe4c827846b50d7c9b83e3ab" md5macosx="43d11aeee2a887f60763e9d0936e6968" />
        <version name="0.4.01" md5win32="8e82bd5cd4f04897ac145021c7b1ecd8" md5linux32="ee9f1a14572760860dc0d0b6e2f21f90" md5linux64="a109a34de89cf6abca3cdcf2ff574f75" md5macosx="0a8f1b99e6fbdaabb4387946e0ee346a" md5macosx1039="ba1b5a3557bc372527777c7ccbcead37" md5generic="0e3cb53fed43d684fc33761a5f0af263" />
        <version name="0.4.01.1" />
        <version name="0.4.01.2" />
        <version name="0.4.01.3" />
        <version name="0.4.01.4" />
        <version name="0.4.01.5" />
        <version name="0.4.01.6" />
        <version name="0.4.01.7" />
        <version name="0.4.01.8" />
        <version name="0.4.01.9" />
        <version name="0.4.01.10" />
        <version name="0.4.01.11" />
        <version name="0.4.01.12" />

Step 5...
Now you know what update you are on go to http://www.xordan.com/psupdater/ and look at the list of updates for your system..
Win32 for Windows etc

Step 6...
Count them.

Step 7...
Count how many updates your text doc ses you have done...

Step 8...
Simple math would state that if your text doc ses you have done 10 updates and there are 14 that you need 4 more... so you do the math...

I hope this help people i know it was a long process but it will hopefully get you up and running...

let me know if it works.. :thumbup:

i would not recommend you editing that file other then making it active. If you edit it incorrectly then you can leave your updater totally broken and useless.

I did not say anywhere in that post to edit it only to open it up and look at it.

Im not being funny or anything im just trying to help people get on to the game as it does look really good.

I think you didn't read it through properly.

If you wre to follow the instructions i gave in that post you would not be editing it one bit all you would be going would be looking to see what update you are on and how many you have left...

as soon as someone tries to run the updater and if it does connect that file will change and by saying it should look like xyz they get the idea they should copy and paste the info there.

Step 5...
Now you know what update you are on go to http://www.xordan.com/psupdater/ and look at the list of updates for your system..
Win32 for Windows etc

Step 6...
Count how many updates there are for your system.

Step 7...
Count how many updates your text doc ses you have done.

Step 8...
Simple math would state that if your text doc ses you have done 10 updates and there are 14 that you need 4 more... so you do the math...

I hope this help people i know it was a long process but it will hopefully get you up and running...

Well when i did the update it didnot install or download the needed file and many people seem to have this issue.

thats why i added the link to the main download link so that the people who have the same problem can get it from there if they are still experiancing problems.
