Before I continue, here is some relevant information.

FS#726 - Redesign/Add to the Crafting GUI.
http://hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=726

Rules of Conduct
http://www.planeshift.it/policies.html
-You may not create "bots" or automation programs with the purpose of profiteering or advancing unattended.

The answer to what probably is your first question is:
No, I have not made a bot and I do NOT intend to make a bot.  I have no intent on creating something that lets you advance unattended or make a large profit in a short amount of time.

Iā€™m making this request because several others, including myself, would prefer not to wreck our wrists when training metallurgy.  Those of you that have trained metallurgy should know of the pain that I speak of.

I would like permission to create a macro to move X number of items from the inventory to a container with one key combination and then back with another key combination.
Said macros would require the user to be present to keep an eye on his items in order to know when to remove them and keep them from turning to slag or dust. (Must stay attended to what is happening in the container.
Activation of the macros will not be automatic what so ever.

I had talked to a GM earlier today on IRC and asked if I could make a macro that would items to and from the container to the inventory and he replied ā€œnoā€ and he also stated that something was ā€˜in the works to make training metallurgy less wrist intensiveā€™.

ā€œIn the worksā€ seems to be a bit far off and so I would like permission to create this.  (And maybe even make it an official macro?)

I will not create anything until I get proper permission.
I have enjoyed PS on and off ever since just before OJ was added and will continue to do so.
I would also like to thank the PS team and ask that they keep up the good work.

Thank you for your time.
-Tontow

Thought I would mention that metallurgy is a mouse-killer.  I remember back when metallurgy first came out years ago and it pretty much ruined my left mouse button.

I mean really, metallurgy is all CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK-CLICK...

moved down here as you'll have a better chance of the dev team reading it here as opposed to the general discussion area.  :)

I sent a pm and email to Talad (both emails that where listed).  I dont know if there is anyone else that I can contact about this matter.
The profiteering bit of the rules of conduct makes something like this a gray area.  And I just want to clear up that gray area.

How about you apply for the team? If you got the skills to do this you can make it happen faster and let everyone benefit from it.

By principle, you can't make exceptions to this kind of rule without raising questions regarding favoritism and double standards. It opens the door for others to argue their wrists hurt from mining, camping or whatever they have to do to level up and precedents become a liability. The final decision is up to Talad but you'd have better luck as a prospect since it will be your duty to suggest and provide ways to improve the game.

I am only well versed in Visual Basic 6.0 and PS is written in C+. - That is why I haven't applied for the team.  However, macros are farley easy to do in Visual Basic 6.0 if you know what your doing/what to use.

from mining, camping or whatever they have to do to level up
Those aren't valid because there are already command line implementation those in place.

Also, I'm the same Tontow (drunk hammerwielder :P) that started the BT report:
FS#726 - Redesign/Add to the Crafting GUI.
http://hydlaa.com/flyspray_upgrade/index.php?do=details&task_id=726
So for those of you that say to make a BT report, I already have and did so over about a year ago.

And instead of whining about it, I'm attempting to do something about it to the best of my ability.

The more I think about it the more I think that maybe moving X number of items to and from the inventory would probably a bit to automated.

Instead I think the macro should just be one click to move one item.  This would work because of the same reason speed loading works. (Speed loading: Move a larg stack to a container and then hold shift and start clicking.  Instead of stacking, items go to the first open slot in the container.)

Here is my revision of how the macro would work:

User: Presses and holds a button (IE: Alt)
User: clicks an item
Macro: if user click was over inventory then move the mouse to a slot in container OR  if user click was over inventory then move the mouse to a transfer to inventory button.
Macro: clicks
Macro: move mouse back to previous position.

This way is a little bit more flexible (More usable when not training met), less wrist intensive -(which is my goal)-, wouldn't be as picky about slots -(items go to first available slot), and would require users to pay more attention as the process is not as automated as my first proposal.

I meant to chime in on this sooner, but I would LOVE to have something that does the following:

1. allow for a shortcut like "/loot group all" that would not require a gui pop-up.
2. allow for a shortcut like "/put X items" in the currently opened container be it a sack, forge, prep table, etc.
3. allow for a shortcut like "get X items" from the currently opened container...

No waits, no open container, no open inventory, etc... just three simple commands would save me a LOT of wrist pain and mouse wear.

Either way, that is my 2 Trias.

Who else, aside from Talad, would have the authority to say yes or no to this?

No reply from Talad yet, so I would like to find out who else would have the authority to say yes or no and get in touch with them.

how about this.

Move a pile of X items into the forge

then right mouse button the stack
and click disperse.

Last night I had a go at metalurgy and know what your talking about.
i would grab 16 ore.
Hold shift and click the pile 15 times

it would auto distribute it's way around the forge.

but once i had a metalurgy skill , i found that i spent alot more time sorting my metal out to make better stock.

so on one hand it would be nice.
but on the other hand it would encourage powerleveling

:Edit:
It would be lovely to have a remove all from forge option

rather than clicking every item in the forge

i think this would be enough , having a move all out and fill option

I was keeping a bit of a tally... and for my most recent level (not close to refining plat), i had to melt and cast 230 ore. That was for 1 level. That is a lot of mouse clicking and wrist strain. The argument for the /place and /remove commands is simply to reduce strain on the wrist and wear on the mouse for training. This isn't about creating bots or power leveling... I am not willing to work more than a level or 2 in a day because of the amount of time it takes to melt down my ore and the sheer amount of ore I have to refine anyways.

So... what can we do with these two commands...

1. fill an entire container (a single container since we can't /change_target)
2. empty an entire container

*** and we can't script [EDIT] these two commands together since there is no "/wait" command. ***

It is no different, in my mind, than allowing /attack bloody|normal|defensive/etc... It is simply an alternate means of performing an action. If you do not automatically stack when using /remove then you can still sort by quality if you desire.
