Guild names: Please implement a time limit for renaming
« on: October 11, 2008, 09:59:12 am »
Just a thought to reduce abuse of a feature, and keep the game safe. Hope it goes in the right direction:

Some mischievous characters are changing their guild name every few hours, to abuse other characters. One example is having a guild name "Character's Sweaty Balls"  - I actually saw this guild (not mentioning the "character's" obviously). Another name I saw was "Characters' testicles". Both these guilds were made by the same person within a short interval, and they constitute first degree offense.

My suggestion is, implement a time delay before the guild name can be changed. For example one day, one week etc. before you can change guild name again. Optionally, a Tria fee could also be imposed (probably depending on how many members guild has, or just a lumpsum amount) to deter frequent guild name changes.

Also, guild names must pass through the same abusive text-filter that normal chat does. (I hope it's done already, still posting it just in case).

Thanks.

the normal chat goes trough a client only side filter which is possible to enable/disable either in outgoing and ingoing messages, additionally it's possible to enable/disable it and to change it's filters

I witnessed such name changes with Vonor but at the time they were toned down a little, probably because they were aware of GM's online.

I'm not taking an official stance (for the entire GM team), but I for one would like to see the name change of guilds limited to once a day, real time.

I'll weigh in with my personal opinion, Guildnames should only be changeable by the GM team for valid RP reasons pretty much like Character names

A couple things to keep in mind:

There may be a legitimate reason why one would want to change a guild name.  For example, the leader may not know how to type or spell.  I remember back when there was a guild in PlaneShift called <The Worriors>.

Also I know this is totally unrelated but I once saw a guild (in another game, mind you) called <Hancock's Minions> that...uhmm, doesn't quite make it through the game's chat filter >_> Then again PlaneShift wouldn't have that problem.

Well that's a matter of personal opinion. I for one would like to see a timer implemented, but not have it go to the hands of the GM team. If you're a guild leader, I think it'd make sense if you'd be allowed to call your guild whatever you want it to be called (same with your own character name. If I suddenly decide to call myself Bob, that's how I'd want other people to know me). By the way, I'm almost positive you're talking about Eldemar when you witnessed this issue. :P

and what if you suddenly decide to call yourself or your guild Bigmac McDonalds? or something less polite?

whats the problem , offensive guild names

whats the proposed solution , have it so they cant change it back in a hurry when a GM is on
that may catch them being abusive.

So someone says it has to go through GM , n someone counters with Tria Transacton.

End of the Day , someone was being offensive (breaking conduct/rules )

report them , take a screen shot.

The only upside to having a delay on a guild name change is increasing the chance they will get caught.

On a tottally differnt Note.

If i were at war with another guild i should not be able to change my guild name untill that war was resolved (dont know if that is in effect or not)
why...         ..So it would be fair in identifying mine or your enemys

Oh poo poo, we probably shouldn't allow guild names like <Banker> either, or tags that NPCs would normally wear in other games.  For example, <Bartender>, <Alchemist>, etc. but <Banker> can really be abused.  We don't want poo poo like this happening in PlaneShift.

EDIT:  Look!  I just joined KIyros Junction (with a capital I, not a lowercase L).
