World Lore Guide?
« on: October 27, 2008, 01:04:51 pm »
I've just done an advanced search through the forums, looking for any world lore information regarding Talad and Laanx, and all I found were people asking questions, snippets of character information, and a link to a web site that apparently no longer exists.

Is there currently available a source for world lore, history, religious information, etc., that anyone knows of and can provide a link to?

Well, firstly there's the official settings on the Planeshift website -www.planeshift.it- but these should be rewritten soon, as there are a number of inconsistancies. Secondly, there's the Jayose library ingame. There's a number of bookcases, which can be examined to find the books- for religious information, the website's probably best, although "Song of the Lemur" in the library says a little. There's also some slightly more recent and less religious history, such as the founding of Gugrontid, and information about the economy can be found in equal parts on both the website and in the library. You can also find out quite a bit about the settings from talking to NPCs (specifically Yliakum geography)- try a teacher, such as Kilas Tungst. Useful questions could be phrased like- "tell me about the winch", etc
Well, I hope you find what you're looking for.

Background in PlaneShift is really experienced in snippets.  I don't think anyone has the full picture who isn't on the settings team.  I actually kind of like it that way, because it keeps things a bit more real and it adds a greater element of mystery and discovery to the game's world.

I am wondering when many of these snippets and stories will get added to the library (or is there one in Oja as well?)

I don't know of a library in Ojaveda, but there are libraries in other parts of the game world (and underworld).  Akkaio is very agrarian relative to Hydlaa I believe.

It would just be nice if there were available during character creation or on the website, some kind of "this is some basics even the village idiot knows" guide. Like, for instance, who are Talad and Laanx, and why would I choose one over the other during character creation.
