mana regen is far too slow

Ok, statistics to back it up. I have all maxed stats, so my mana bar is maxed at 222 points (oddly low I've always thought, seeing as HP max is 800 and both stam max is 1000) and I'd always thought the mana bar filled up far too slowly, but this time I went and depleted my mana down to 2% and timed the regen back up to 100%



It took 18 minutes.


Some of you may think "Ok, 18 minutes isn't THAT long" but now I challenge you to go get a stopwatch, and sit in a chair and do nothing but stare at the stopwatch as it counts down those 18 minutes. See how bored you get.
There is an alternative, more probable theory that 9/11 was in fact caused by Hanson's 1997 smash hit 'MMMBop.'

I suggest finding a better way to spend your time than staring at a stopwatch.

keep in mind that when the formulas for calculating almost everything ingame were made with the stats and skills capped at a much lower number then they are now, the team is aware of the balance issues that come from this, and will at some point fix them all. just WAIT.

drop the spells and pick up a sword while it recharges... or go mining... or work on another skill... no one said you have to sit and wait for it

I know there are other things you could do, but for someone who wants to play a pure mage, which isn't an unreasonable wish, it'd make things rather difficult. I did a search of the forums for 'mana regen' and it only had one result, which was a thread about people abusing the /die command, so I just figured I should raise the issue.

There was one spell called 'relaxing sleep' that did wonders for mana and stamana regen, but it seems to have been disabled because of abuse..........

It was disabled because it did not work as intended, resulting in possible exploits.

Said differently:  It's supposed to take a long time.  I think the inspiration is from D&D:  It should take a full in-game day (24 in-game hours) for a magic user to recharge.

It might be less fun, but it's more realistic, and people like Xillix and other roleplayers think magic should be realistic.

Maybe this thread is in the wrong forum?

Hmm... "Realistic." You keep using that word to describe magic. I don't think it means what you think it means. If you want magic in Planeshift to be "realistic," then it should not work at all. ;)

BTW I've been away from the Planeshift forums for a very long time, and I'm sad to see that nothing has changed. The person who started this thread had a valid complaint/suggestion, and this is the "Complaint Department," yet his suggestion is pretty much treated with a condescending attitude by the devs. Maybe that's why the game has hardly progressed in the four years since I first tried it.

To the poster of this thread, I agree completely with your suggestion. As it stands, this game is not a place for someone to be a mage. Planeshift is all about mining and smacking brain-dead mobs with a sword. If you want a game with more interesting and complete magic implementation, you're really looking at the wrong game. I might suggest Regnum Online, Perfect World, Rappelz or a free WoW server. All these games are free to play (WoW is free on private servers). If you are a Linux user, Regnum has a native Linux client, and both Perfect World and WoW run in Linux under Wine.
