Death Guardian - Why Hasn't This Been Asked?
« on: November 03, 2008, 10:43:23 pm »
Surprisingly I haven't seen this question asked yet: why was the Death Guardian moved right in the middle of the road and in everyone's way? You either try tackling the Death Guardian down to get to the road you need to go, or risk moving around him and missing a step into the abyss (realistically speaking, anyway - OOCly it's obvious you can run right through him).

I can't say for certain, but I believe he was being used as part of an exploit... so they moved him. As to why they moved him there, I don't really know.

I just thought it was a bug and he was somehow "lured" despite having no attack option. so I ran through him because it was an ooc issue (I thought...)

Some people used alts to collect mined ore, carrying far more than intended, then did /die and sold all to the death guardian. A solution to this that someone thought of was to move him out of reach of those alts :). Why he is blocking the road I do not know.

That isn't really fixing it, since you can make a macro to /target and /pickup items and just drop-run them over to the guardian anyway. Kind of a pointless exploit to try and fix, since the Death Realm will eventually be expanded and whatnot anyway.

indeed they should just ban the cheaters who abuse that bug. It could even be automated, add a capacity check to the /die function and automatically delete any character immediately if it is more than 25% overcapacity. Possibly modify  the penalty if under a weakness spell but no consideration for being under Dakkru's curse.

I find deletion a very harsh thing to do just for  dieing with too much being carried. OOC powerlevers/noobs may kill people just because they have lots carried  and hope it's over 25% maximum capacity and when see the account is deleted - Laugh about the prank he/she did and have his/her friends  party. Preventing death with too much weight may prevent an IC robbery when sombody is weighed down. A warning (with a clear message to ignore if not doing anything wrong) and a notification to GMs for investigation is a good "penalty".
