I put that in and all I got were the same 3 as earlier (options  options.cfg  planeshift.cfg) I looked at all of those and no sign on any log.
I'm wondering if perhaps I should just uninstall it and re-download it again, for the third time :(
I'm spending more time dealing with problems than actually playing  >:( Which is a shame because when I do get to play it's an enjoyable game.

sorry could you clarify which options you mean here? In the game or the directory?

Gracecamel... I would recommend having your husband read this thread.  For example: If he is a PROGRAMMER and is looking for LOG FILES when he needs to be looking for a file OUTSIDE of your installed directory which has a file like "bamko.???" (might be .txt, not sure) (with your char name) and he is searching "log" or for programming log files, he will NEVER find it.

I know when many people provide help, it is hard to pass on all the relevant info, so maybe have him read this?

I do not use Linux, but... Planeshift has 2 locations, one for the program (where it installed it) and another for chat logs, screenshots and books you can upload (save as text file and upload ingame)

So, go ingame and save a screenshot INGAME (not using print screen, but the comand  "/screenshot" then carefully write down the filename.  have him search for that.

Then you have found your screenshot folder, nice to know anyways.  Go up one level, and you will see a folder for screenshots, one for books and one for chat.  Open the chat folder and look for your characters name.

I would also put a shortcut of this location on your desktop, so next time you can find it easier.

I imagine this would be the same kind of set up, regardless of OS.  Hope that helps.

Thank you both. I did have to activate the ingame option to make the log, as soon as that was done they appeared where they were supposed to be :)
As I play on his computer and that does a back up each night I'm going to have to copy/paste the log to myself as an email. So I've decided to create a new character and start again from scratch :)

Shouldn't the quest logs be available in-game?. This would make for a more immersive experience, rather then having to exit the game (if you're running full-screen), or resort to windowed mode to view the logs concurrently, departing from the alterior life feeling?

Is it not possible to just reload the communication logs at startup?

Cheers, Lexx.

http://www.planeshift.it/guide/en/guide-interface.html#guide-interface-quests

There is a Quest Log available in-game.  The entries the quests leave sometimes don't provide all the info you need, so I make it a point to check what info is in the log, and add notes if need be the moment I get any new quest.

For instance, NPC X tells me to visit NPC Y and say "X sent me" to retrieve an item.  The quest log entry might simply say the NPC X is looking for an item, not which NPC to get it from, nor what I have to say exactly.  I assume this is an intentional design decision to make the players pay attention and take some notes, so it isn't just holding your hand and telling you every step along the way.  You do have to spend a little time remembering NPC names, figuring what NPC does what (you can ask them about their jobs for instance).

remember the quest log does not fill in automatically, you have to fill it in. not always do you get any info about exactly what to do by looking in the quest log.

and if you forget to enter complete notes in your quest log tab ingame, or, <shudder>, you make a mistake and miss a key reference ("ask her about penguins") you can always look it up in the chatlogs.  You MAY make a mistake in jotting down notes in the quest log, but the chatlog is nice to see if your notes, and your memory is correct.  Ideally you will make complete notes in your quest logs, or even buy a book and write notes in there (even more emersive, IMO).  I use notebooks in my real life quests.  Which reminds me, Wifey wanted me to buy some Bananas, I better go add that to my quest notes..  ;D
