I get essentially the same thing:

X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request:  135 (XFree86-VidModeExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request:  10 (XF86VidModeSwitchToMode)
  Value in failed request:  0x3000002
Serial number of failed request:  105
Current serial number in output stream:  109

Just installed x64, was using x86 (because). Now there is no crashing, but I cannot play in fullscreen. I have ubuntu 8.1 x64 updated and all that. I cannot seem to update the game either. I need to be in "root". For the love of god and all that holy, how can I get it to update? I have read/write on all 3 things, now what magic dance do I need to do.
The game is really fun, but Im getting burnt on some of this dilly-dallying around. :@#\

What video card do you have, and what driver are you using in Ubuntu?

And while I don't want to start a massive flamewar, I do want to go on record as saying while Ubuntu is better than Windows and is very popular, I think openSUSE is the best major Linux distro out there.  I highly recommend people give it a try.
