Cardinal Directions

Signposts in game now reference cardinal directions. One is right next to the Plaza in Hydlaa. If there are cardinal directions in game, does this mean we can expect lodestones or such in the future? If there are going to be cardinal directions is it appropriate to assume that there exists a magnetic north and that the source of this could be located OUTSIDE of the stalactite?

RL directions are based on geographic poles, not magnetic poles. Those just happen to be close to each other in our current geological period.
In PS, expect something different. For orientation, the most obvious thing to point at would be the Crystal.

The fact that both magnetic and geographic North are both called North is more the point. And I did expect something different. And the signpost contradicts it. If there is an East, then there is a North. How is it determined?

We do not have cardinal directions. The "East" from Hydlaa is actually named after someone (the answer can be found in game). Any cardinal directions referenced in game, if they still exist, will be phased out and replaced with something new in the future.

A good system to use might be the one from D'ni in the game Uru: Ages Beyond Myst- there are three coordinates, Distance (in and out from the center), Elevation (up and down) and Toran (a kind of degrees around the circumference.) Something like that would seem to be the best thing to do for a circular world like Yliakum.

About the sunrise it does get dark and lighter but it is said to always be luminous in some way. Except during an eclipse, which we haven't experienced yet that I am aware of.
