The Crystal Bug & Potential Solution.
« on: November 27, 2008, 04:34:52 am »
I'm not going to post a spoiler, so I'll talk around the problem. There is a quest that requires one to look for powdered diamond crystal. The trouble with the NPC discussion is that any time the word 'Crystal' is used, it triggers the 'Krans think crystals are yummy for their tummy' monologue.

This can be fixed by simply removing the word 'crystal' from the quest's originating NPC dialog. Deleting 7 letters from a sentence in a quest would probably save people a few keyboards, mice, and keep their dogs from getting kicked.  :woot:

Well of course removing it from your query to the npc should also work...It is kind of redundant though because all true diamonds are crystals.

Yes, but the system seems to require people to type in exactly what the NPCs say, as in objects. If you don't want it fixed, that's fine with me - but it's a bug because of the way that people use the system. People who have been using the system for some time usually work around it.... and forget the frustration involved. If there is frustration, it probably shouldn't be because people follow the way the system works and... it doesn't work this one time.

If you're interested in playability, it should be fixed - and it's a simple fix. If you want to fix the users, join the long line of programmers out there.  :sorcerer:

this is not the place to report bugs we have a bug tracker for that reason.

Is a quest issue a bug or a game play issue? I think it's a game play issue. That said, sure, one of these days I'll use the bug tracker to report a bug... but since this is the Complaint Department, I thought I would do something different... and propose a solution to a gameplay problem.

Cheers.

A bug is _anything_ that keeps you from doing something ingame, so a quest issue IS a BUG, so please do not report them to the forum and use the tracker so we can keep _track_ of them, and as far as i know this issue was posted there some time ago and i believe that a dev has looked into it. You can _also_ propose fixes on the tracker but they can also be ignored, that is up to the dev that looks into the issue.

Caarie is right, this is a bug, it deals with the way in which NPC interpret user input, take her suggestion and use the bug tracker, nothing will be done about it otherwise. Thank you very much however for trying to raise the issue. If you use the right channels, the dev team can do something about it.

I'm going to lock this thread because there is nothing else to add.
