Well, a few reasons.
Here\'s a few reasons why people are interested ( everybody has their own. )
First is that we are an opensource project. This means that anybody can download the source code. Second the game is done on a volunteer basis. So there is a core of people that work on the game and many others that contribute pieces. Third, is that we are very commited to making this project succeed ( unlike many other opensource projects ). Fourth, by releasing a demo we can show people that we are serious about this and it gives people that want to help out a good indication that we are moving forward. The demos are our best recruiting tool for finding people that want to help out.
Fifth, people like to be in on the \'ground floor\' as a game takes shape. People have a unique ability to see the game as it grows.
As for the length of time I cannot say. A famous quote is \"Never give up on a dream because of the time it will take, the time will pass anyways\" So even if it takes 10 years it will be 10 years well spent.
I hope you don\'t think that games like \"Shadowbane\" are ready in a weekend. That\'s been pushed back almost 3 years now
