NPC targeting and communication problem
« on: December 08, 2008, 12:30:22 pm »
I just downloaded the game a couple of days ago just before the server crash. Today I tried it and it worked, I have set up my character and entered the world and tried to communicate with an NPC. First it was targeted and I said "Hi" and it replied, then the problem happened. What ever I say to it "give me a quest", "tutorial", "give me a tutorial" it responds that it didn't understand what I was saying and tells me to not get frustrated and try to simplify the question. Moreover targeting stopped to function as I couldn't target anything else, even the first NPC that I've targeted, with and without "/target". I restarted the game and the same thing happened, it seems like I can only target once and speak one phrase. I have tried uninstalling and re installing but its the same issue all over again, tried updating but the updater says that it doesn't need any updates.

Can you please tell me how to fix this. If there is any fix. I am using Linux Ubuntu 8.04 (fully up to date) and I don't have any other problems or at least I think so as I haven't been able to play much of the game yet.

Hi redserpent7,

what was the name of the NPC you tried to talk to?
The first one should be "Abelia Aruine" - you may want to consult the "Tutorial Walkthrough" for first aid.

I have read the walkthrough and it suggest that I say "give me a quest" but as I said it is not working for some reason, the major problem I'm having is that I can only target once. even if I target "Abelia" and then untarget it, I can not target her again.

Once you target something, it stays targeted until you target something else, clear your target, or if it no longer becomes a legal target (i.e. someone picks it up).

Some rotating reddish mark around the NPCs feet indicates it's targeted.

Now, you could try to deselect the NPC by clicking anywhere else, then type into your chatwindow (while standing close to Abelia):
Code: [Select]
/target next npc
Switch to NPC-tab of your chatwindow and try "give me a quest" once more.

Yeah.  There's a very small area near the feet where you have to right click.  It's difficult.

um, no. you should be able to click almost anywhere on an npc or player to target them, you can also use the /target <thing> command as well. Some npcs are harder to click on then others.

That's not my experience.  I can't click just anywhere on the model, it needs to be down near the feet.

That might have something to do with you mouse driver, do you have some kind of fancy mouse with proprietary drivers or is it fairly generic? My experience has been "almost anywhere" most of the time. It has happened in the past that things were not where they appeared to be but that doesn't seem to be much of a problem anymore.

Ok I stopped trying, the game crashes "frequently" targeting has became a nightmare as I have to type /target <sth> in order to interact with objects, people and NPCs. I just can't stand it. Maybe I'll try the game sometime in the future when its less buggy.
