I can't run!

I have searched for any information on this but I cant come up with any matches.  Whenever i hold shift and move it doesn't make me run, I still walk.  Its really frustrating me and im not sure why Its not working.  I am on a Mac powerbook (ive played games where controls are funny when on a mac) and I'm not really sure if this is what is causing the problem.  If anyone has an idea of what my problem is I would appreciate an answer.  I'm sure I'm going to feel like an idiot when I realize I missed something obvious but until then I'm stuck moving in slo-mo.

i play on a mac as well and I have found that at times I have had to go into the options and reset the keys related to specific functions in order to get them to work especially after an new release or update. You can so that in game while playing.

See!!  The most obvious thing!  Actually I didn't know that my keyboard doesn't discern between right and left shifts, they are both the same key in the computers "mind."   Thank you for the help Hrothbert I'm running free now all thanks to you.
