Well, few thoughts.. if it were done multiple times for different timezones the surprise would have been destroyed.
Also is the gm availability on christmas eve probably limited.

Actually it looks not very probable that it can be done for all timezones so it is not really a surprise. One can of course discuss sensefullness, the doing and fairness of the event in general, but...
... for the ooc part look at Utm's (and few other's) comments. The situation the event produced is not all nice, but I honestly see apart from some valid points also a big part of jealousy as source of the bad mood. (Again, I know it is not all fair)

The Madness that took place Christmas day has chronically undermined PS. To hand out skills like Met and ways to those lucky enough to be there has accomplished what? Ill tell you what...Nothing except the undermining of core values like hard work & knowledge.

Well im fairly new to PS, i enjoy it  loads in many different ways, only been here about 6 weeks now. I would rather work like a Nolthrir Biatch for my efforts than get handed maxed skills etc etc on a  silver platter...I dont like the easy way of getting things,,,, no such fun,,,these people who have accepted such gifts will miss out on the journey of getting them themselves....and the most valuable of all experience....i would decline all "freebies" ( and if again) they have been offered and have done already from smaller in game quests,,
