stuck in tutorial
« on: December 27, 2008, 05:08:26 am »
This has probably already been answered somewhere, and I'm just not finding it, but I'm at my wits end. I'm a newbie, doing the tutorial, and running on mac os leopard. I've read as many stickies as I could, and did several searches. I've also followed along with the walk-through. Alas, I'm still stuck with Orphia in the tutorial. I've asked her about all the ways, which she's given me information on. I accidentally bought a glyph from her already (this was before I found the walk-through guide). But I can't get her to tell me the bit about dying so I can move on to the next part of the tutorial. I've asked her to give me quests, told her I'm ready in about fifty different ways (including just saying "ready"), and all she ever says is that she doesn't understand me. Is there some magic word to get her to move along?

if i remember right you should purify that glyph right now, and give it to her.

No,the glyph is for Xargon later.

@elfkin: Have you logged out or crashed during the tutorial? You might already be done with Orphia. I think she answers the questions about the Ways however times you ask her (asking her for this information is not necessary to proceed, it's just additional useful knowledge). Check your logs. Depending on your operating system they are located here:

Logs can be found at:

Windows XP     %appdata%\PlaneShift
Windows Vista    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\PlaneShift\logs

Mac OS X    ~/Library/Application Support/PlaneShift
NOTE: the "~"-sign is the path to "/Users/UserName"

Linux    ~/.PlaneShift
NOTE:  the "~"-sign is the path to "/home/UserName"

Bear with me, because I'm a complete tech-idiot.

If I could actually find the logs I might have figured it out (apparently, my path is a bit different, because I don't have a planeshift folder in my applications support folder. The only planeshift folder I have is in applications, and none of the folders in it seem to be what I'm looking for, though being completely tech-unsaavy, I'm going on my best guesswork on most of this.) but I couldn't, so I didn't. Instead, I attempted to talk to Xargon - he told me to see the other teachers and then bring the three items, which I had, but when I tried to give him the first one the system told me he didn't need that item. So I'm guessing Orphia isn't done with me. So, I made a new character and relaunched the tutorial, just to see if following the walk-through exactly in the case of Orphia did me any good. It didn't. I'm still stuck there, attempting any and all word cues I can think of.

Haha! Never mind! I'm a total moron, but I've figured it out. Thanks for the help guys, now just pat me on the head and send me to bed, because I wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing and my only excuse is sleep deprivation.

Um, Always nice to explain what you did wrong, so others can learn from it.
