I never found getting out of the Dr too hard, sounds more like a driver issue.  I can not use the driver that came with my computer (bought in October) and windows said the driver was up to date... but lo and behold, I Dled the newest driver from the Vid card's web site and viole!  it worked much better.

Would it be nice if game worked perfectly with all cards and all equipement all of the time, sure.  But with a beta game with 100% volunteer workforce, you might need to make sure your video card drivers are working with it.  I also heard some need to use older drivers, so if most recent dont work, try a previous release?

Need a large paid support team to do more than give you advice (such as you see in this thread), maybe you need a game you pay for.  I bet WOW has several people who work solely on making it look good on any hardware/driver combo imaginable.

The fact you have 8 characters in the DR is depressing, but try the drivers (it helps the game experience if you get them working, not just DR).  then I would take  a screenshot of you, preferably with someone nearby, so we can see if you can see.  Note it IS darker there.  I also would put away the torch, makes it harder for me to see.  Maybe it is me, but seems to light up my toes and everything else gets darker.  looks cool though, but not like a magical search beacon either.

ASk someone ingame to show you the way out.  I remember my first time in, I got to the end of aa ramp, and thought "hey, I dont see the path, but it must be there" and stepped off.  Oh... there is no path there... Not like the movie (golden child?) where you need to have faith the path is there, even if you can not see it.  You need to stop and look around and find the way out, or ask someone.

Without a screenshot, all the help I can provide.

as some can tell you the game is plenty bright, it all depends on your screen and your graphics card and drivers nothing we can do if you have sub-par equipment.
Actually, I think this is still strange. OpenGL is a standard. You would expect that if you tell your graphics card using standard commands to make something white, it would be white, no matter what hardware. Sub-par equipment (like my intel chip) might have problems achieving a high framerate, do things like bumpmapping or antialiasing, but white should still be white.

My game gets very dark too in places.  Hydlaa Plaza/Hydlaa Jayose mostly.  those 2 are fixed by using F11,F12 keys.  Im running a very old ati radeon card.  Death IS NOT that hard man, if you see someone run by you, /tell them!  I'm sure any player would stop to help you out, even if you have to walk right behind them!  Been there, done that.  Where there is a will, there is a way.

As far as PS being to dark, I like it. I do hope when PS is done its really shadowy and shiny like I saw on another thread...

I think that you should not go to the death realm for using the /die command. I had to use that because I got stuck, and /unstick didn't work, so now I gotta find my way through an annoying maze.

So... to clarify... you want to be able to use the /die command and not die?   ???

Use the Help channel in chat, ask the GMs to help you out of those situations; I don't know if they can but give it a try.

I'm not sure why people with top of the line equipment would be playing a beta game???
and I also agree with planeshift being too dark. I can live with it, but it's always dim.

i enjoy the DR.  I think it adds an interesting flavor to the game.  The only thing that gets me is the curse that afflicts you for 30 minutes means that often when I get out of the DR, I can't move for 30 minutes because with a weakened strength, suddenly I am overburdened.

It is one thing to take a player and make them jump through a hoop because their character died.  But if you take them out of gameplay for 30 minutes, to may lose the player.

You should try not to die. Or carry less stuff and be reckless.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

Maybe it's one of these few things that are easier to achieve in RL than in a computer game.

Um, people die every day IRL, and I am sure they, and their loved ones WISH they could have them back, even if they had to be weak for a whole hour!.... :'(  /rant

They even put in a death guardian, who tells you to unburden yourself and buys, at the going price, a lot if the items you may be carrying.  Not sure what more would work for you, short of handing out buffs for dying like candy.

Goal: to discourage dying, make it painful and inconvenient.  Done.

Other ways it can be done?  sure.  but lets have the people suggesting 30 minutes of being overburdened because you are carrying too much AND you died come up with not just a complaint of it, but what they suggest.

I know, Maybe have it give you a choice, 10% of your experience (total, and the resulatant loss of skills you have learned if you do not have 10% of lifetime experinece banked (unused) ) or 30 minutes of the curse.  Me, I will stick with the curse, thank you very much.

So please, if you do not like the DR and curse, Please suggest what you would use to replace it, not that any changes will happen, but at least then we will be having a conversation.  Otherwise it sounds unreasonable.

Even saying "I think there is no reason to have any punishment for dying" is honest (assuming you think that, I don't).  Then we can agree to disagree on that point.

And, not to speak for the team, which , remember, i am not a member of, other than a tester/player/citizen of Yliakum, I would speculate that if you are going to quit because the curse will make you sit for 30 minutes because you DIED, and refused to lighten your load, then how likely you are going to bother to read the forums, the settings, make an attempt to RP, fill out a bugtracker report, etc?  if they are willing to quit over 30 minutes, take the curse away, and they will quit over something else they don't like.  "Hey, give me Laz0rsw0rds, or I am going to just play Wow!"

ok, have fun with that, buh bye... :D

Every time I've died in the past week or so has been a game error, such as climbing a ladder and the game reporting that I'm out of bounds.  At that point I have to spend 5 minutes running through the DR, and then sit on my butt for 30 minutes in Hydlaa, and the spend time running back to where the game freaked out on me.

The purpose of a game is to have fun.  I know I'm playing a beta product and I expect some lumps.  Bugs aren't an intentional game decision.  Dekku's Curse is.  And I think there should be an impact of dying in game, but making me sit down for thirty minutes isn't fun.  To that extent, I'd like to see it changed.

why must trying to revive and go back to normal world be so hard (after u died)
And why exactly do you need to leave the Death Realm and go back to the other world?

Some people have stayed there for years and are still ok  :whistling:

Allow me to repeat myself, if I may. Carry less stuff.

Wow, Tharos, I had figured you had gone to the Death Realm's Death Realm at this stage.
