[GUILD] The Fallen Angels
« on: January 02, 2009, 02:50:28 am »

Rodef Emet was on the run from his past. After leaving his former guild, tragically doomed to destruction because of its strict hierachy, he found many others with similar experiences, and decided on a solution: A guild without ranks, without a hierachy. A guild where everyone was equal, regardless of experience or ability. A guild of victims of the hierachy. A guild of Exiles. No, he thought, that wasn't quite it. A guild of Equals!

The Fallen Angels will be a fully egalitarian socialist guild. There are no ranks, and everyone is equal. The guild's ideology is based on Marx's principle: Each to his own ability, each for his own need. The only obligation that the guild requires is that each member contributes what he or she can to the guild and its members, and in return he or she will get what he or she needs from the guild and its members.

Please post here if you are interested in founding the guild with me,

Rodef Emet

I can only see this failing. You will need a group to manage the handouts and they will then end up being a rank of their own and the purpose is defeated.
I suggest the statue of Laanx gets turned into a statue of Parallo <3. An NPC could never replace the huge hole he left in my heart when he died  :'(

:o Are you suggesting that my guild will be similar to the continent of Oceania in George Orwell's 1984? I feel insulted!

Yes. Collectivism tends towards totalitarianism. Orwell said so himself.

Ah, but you generalize. Socialism was worked better than most think it did. Take the kibbutzim in Israel, for instance. Also, The name the Fallen Angels is based on the legend of the Nephilim, who rejected the authority of God and went on to create their own egalitarian community.

Democratic socialism has worked a charm and it tends to not be totalitarian at all, as the name suggests.

Yes, but neither are many of the other Guilds. Besides, we plan to create our own legend in Yliakum, based on our actions.

Then perhaps you should come up with a name based on those actions and not ones that didn't happen.

The thing is, it may not be allowed by the GM team, as it may go against guild-name policy. Also, most guilds outside of PS settings are also not using real world stuff, and if they are, are generally ignored by the RPing population. Most guilds and players do indeed step out of PS settings at least a little, but they generally avoid bringing in things from real-world stories/lore/history.

You have one member. You can't not be totalitarian!
