Naming sacks
« on: January 05, 2009, 11:01:11 pm »
Seeing as how many sacks my character is carrying, an idea came to my mind. So I searched for related posts and found this from 2006:
http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=25158.0
I don't see any resolution there neither anything that has been done about it, so I'm opening a new thread.
One'd say after so much time the idea has either been either discarded or postponed, but I'm hoping for an official reply. Delete/lock if necessary, please.

I personally would like to simply have sacks have the possibility to be renamed. Perhaps any sort of container but crafting recipients and others alike could.
We've been able to edit and rename books for a while so I suppose it shouldn't be too hard to implement code-wise.
All the sacks in my inventory are themed and so giving them a name to make it easier to know what's inside would be really helpful.

As for an IC explanation... Anybody can use a piece of coal to mark a sack, write down a couple of letters in it at least. Don't see how naming them could be disruptive in that regard.

We don't have many inventory slots and the need of order in busy backpacks seems apparent.

Well, this is a forum and that is the bugtracker. I don't see how can it be duplicate.
But as I said, feel free to lock or delete.
* Lhaa shrugs.

Perhaps this forum should indeed disappear as proposed recently. ;)

as this was propsed on the tracker it means it has a greater chance of getting done someday once talad reviews the feature requests, and no i dont agree that this board be deleted it has its uses. Also it is up to the devs for how this board gets used vs the tracker and they have not said that this board is to be closed and not used anymore.

I second Lhaa's post.  Books can already be renamed.  I feel it is very important that sacks can be renamed fpr custom sorting use.

Yes, a very good idea. Maybe helps at least a little bit to get rid of that mess in my inventory. Added my vote too

I also add my vote, not only would it reduce the confusion when trying to find an item when needed but also could add some flavor to RPing, the sack could essentially be anything your heart desires.

books must have unique names, sacks would likely as well. People will be pretty annoyed that they can't name their sack "daggers" or some such. One way to get around this might be to automatically prepend that owners name to the sack. Generic sack will just be "sack" but naming a sack "dagger" would result in "prolix's daggers", for example.

What's wrong with "Blank Book (65535)" as a name? Or "Daggers (255)"?

I see your point though, seriously. If you can trade items... the name must be unique... that does put a twist on this request...

I don't quite get why you would name a sack or why anyone would stick sharp pointy weapons in a sack. I will agree that sacks are marked such things as coal, potatoes, mainly used as easy identification in stockrooms\warehouses\markets\etc. But then what you could have is a number of generic sacks you can make\buy\mark, which might be easier and be able to examine to see if the merchant has put the correct goods in the correct sack.

I envisioned "sacks" as more generic "packs"... Or that the swords were wrapped in some kind of cloth before they could be placed in the sack... Just my two trias...
