Us players went along with it by taking in-character sides either for or against the claim. It was the GMs who reacted against it, although I wouldn't call it a "roasting".
Everyone remembers situations like this in different ways. You must have seen this situation from a different perspective than me.
I remember it was the player base who protested enough about what Xillix was doing to get the Gm's involved. Trust me. I know Xillix was getting a hard time from the player base because some people in my guild where part of the people who did not agree with him and what he was doing. Ask him some time, he might tell you how many came up against him.
Doesn't matter who did what anyway, we have a damn good RPer added to the PlaneShift team and his experience will be used to better the game as it moves onward. That's all that matters.
