I propose to "lock" the names on both servers cross-wise.
- avoid abuse of character names by other players ("Hey, you insulted me?" - "No, that was my bad twin.")
- avoid mixing up of worlds and characters ("Hey, what world are we talking off?")
If someone wants the same name on both servers, a GM can check if the person is the same for both accounts and allow the name on demand.

Heh ... too bad, I made a char named Orgonwukh already.  KIDDING!

I just don't understand why characters can't be transfered on 2nd server, as a cut/paste action.
Every RP and PL would be pleased.

Where are the vote keys to go to the poll?

no not everyone would be happy with that, some would have advantage over others, we want a clean start for all. if you dont want to start over fine stay on laanx

There are going to be a lot of potential benefits to a clean server... There are also significant benefits to stay on laanx... but it is a CHOICE to switch... If you are happy on laanx... there is no reason you HAVE to switch servers.

[EDIT] I must say though, I am surprised by the overall reception this has received by the few that have posted here. I figured there would be dancing in the streets of hydlaa as much as I've seen people talking about how the PLers aren't welcome and comments telling people they should go try runescape and whatnot. I wonder why there aren't more people posting in support of this decision as what it really means is that RP CAN be enforced on laanx without turning people away completely.

I very much like this. Sure, RPers have, in general (definitely not ALL of us) very little training or assets we would lose, but for those of us who DO it is harder for us to regain those assets than it is for a lot of people who don't RP at all. After all, we have to juggle our RP with our training and money-making, and for most of us, RP comes first. It would take us much longer and much more grief to regain things, because most of us have trained and gained over a fairly long period of time. To many of us, grinding is very annoying, where as to those who only level and mine and duel, grinding is commonplace, everyday stuff, and thus much easier for you to do.

On the good points for the "PLers" who don't like being forced to stay in character, you no longer have to. This new server is yours, it is for the non-RPers, you guys will be the kings, you can tell those who say you're ruining their RP to stfu (and actually use the acronym). Less rules, more features. It should be like going to heaven for you.

We want to clean out a lot of old cruft that's hanging around. Doing that and transferring characters would require a huge effort that we're not able or willing to undertake right now.

Ye gods, I go away for a couple of months and the servers splinter. Its probably a real good idea, give it some time everyone.

A new server... Great news.
Having heard all the statements & agreeing with some and profoundly disagreeing with others I come to a few conclusions.

1) Why decide without the chance of changing the decision : To ask PLers to migrate when theyve done all the hard work? Surely as Birot/Jenica pointed out, it would be easier to migrate RPers? You ask too much.. 1-2 or more years of grind down the Loo. I dont think so.

2) Where is this new server located ? In the real world I mean ? IS it still with Fragnetics?
But I guess we will see wont we.

I'm under the impression that it's in Topeka, Kansas, United States.

My first response would be that: The plans from ages ago were that if you didn't RP you'd be banned from the game to make server room for somebody who could.  That feeling has somewhat lightened, at least from the devs point of view but, the game is being made mainly for Roleplay, not Powerleveling.  Roleplay will always be treated more highly than powerleveling.

Second response is that although many people have put in months of individual effort for levels others have put in years of community effort for Roleplay.  There are guilds, guild history, special items, books and such which would be hard to remake.

Third response is simply that you aren't really being asked to migrate.  You're being encouraged to.  Roleplayers will not bother you on the other server and you will be able to try out features before they do.

Dragnoor: Why was it decided this way? Because it was. It is the Devs sandpit, it is upto them if people play in it or not. No one is forcing anyone to change servers. If someone wishes to change then they should feel free to do so. Regarding items, stats, etc......

RPers have, in general (definitely not ALL of us) very little training or assets we would lose, but for those of us who DO it is harder for us to regain those assets than it is for a lot of people who don't RP at all. I get the impression some people think that the 'new' server (it's been a private test server for years) will be for people who want act childish like Runescape or something; from what I understand it will just be targeted towards people who want to use the game mechanics even at the expense of good roleplay - I have done testing on laanx before, but it can be a bit tricky and annoying trying to RP with people you meet, and come up with reasons why you are doing crazy things - or even just taking the time to explain ;)

In other words, it's my server! Mine! :P Just joking...

Probably some of the rules will still be enforced, I don't know.

I am all for it - a wonderful idea - since I level and RP I will stay mainly on Laanx but will check out the new server to see what is "coming down the pike" so to speak.

Oh yes, I fully intend to have an account on the second server as well to covertly scope out the features and stuff :)
