Finding herbs
« on: January 21, 2009, 12:11:00 pm »
I finally got to start a fresh character today and succeeded in doing some mining. But I'm having trouble figuring out how to go about gathering herbs, I know they're of no skill use yet but I would like to try picking some.

There are herbs all over the place. The wilds are full of them. ;D

If you are having trouble picking them up then you need to "/target herb_name" "/pickup". ::|

If you are having trouble finding them you need to look harder. ::| ::|

Yes I understand there are a lot about, but if you have no idea what they are supposed to look like or what they are called it makes it difficult to find them. What I want to know is a rough idea of how they look and whether or not I can just type /pick and gather them this way.
I can find plenty of similar info for mining but not herbs. And with mining all you need to look for is the ground.
I can't really wander the wilderness typing /target (any old word) until I get it right :) Well I could but I think I'd get bored playing after a couple of hours of that.

or you can select them and click on the "pickup" icon.  Good thing to do is find out which NPCs buy them.  Surprisingly a lot of them do.  Every time you visit an NPC that buys and sells stuff, take a moment to see what they buy.  They have categories for more than what they sell. (when you select it under "buy" some sections are blank.  Why?  Because they do not sell them, but they do BUY them!  So find oen that has a "plants" or "plant parts"?  they buy plants or plant parts (different categories, It seems IN GENERAL that plants are used for potions and plant parts are used for cooking, though I heard there is some overlap... I never tried cooking, but this seems to make sense, saffron is a plant part, while Hops and lavender is a plant.  (I guess one does not cook beer, as in food, but brews it as in a potion?)

They look like lil sacks sitting out in the wilderness....

Hope that helps.

Right now they all look like sacks sitting on the ground, the art work isn't finished for them yet.  Herbs don't work like mining, you'll see them and pick them up like anything else lying around.  (if you have your labels visible, you'll even see what they are without even clicking on them)

Huge Huge Spoiler Warning!

You can start with apples near Harnquist...

There are some plants that have models already. Carrots and some flowers come to mind. The rest look - as Quin said - like brown sacks. They are pretty easy to see. Just wander around outside and you'll find some...

Thank you all for the description, I would have been looking for 'plants'. I did managed to get a little extra game time this morning and met a lovely lady who was very helpful to myself and another new player. She was on her way to show us the area for some herbs but I had to leave. But now I know I hadn't gone far enough along the road to Hydlaa to find them :)
