I think GMs should be allowed to play the game using non-GM characters and, while doing that, they should be able to spawn unique items for themselves and elicit the cooperation of other GMs to help facilitate things (ie playing NPCs and monsters).
If GMs masquerade as normal players, then players will be more quick to help one another and interact with one another.
Masquerading as a normal player can also help GMs catch trouble-makers in the act.
this thread was about gm events, i dont see a mention of a request on how to do a gms job.
It's an alternative way to go about gm events, Caarrie and quite on topic.
I like to see what events GMs come up with, the more people who can be included the better and the more power the players feel the have the better. I don't like how I phrased that but, still.
Also, as Karyuu pointed out, one that uses certain characters unique skills or positions. Events would seem much more integrated if they involved The Royal House of Purrty, for instance, or the Rangers of Yliakum. Also serves as a good way to reward those who roleplay well, although it does require a bit of planning with those involved.
