on your install cd/dvd it should have an "Applications" folder on it somewhere might take sometime to find it you just need to copy the Utilities folder from it to your Applictions folder.

i don't understand why it won't work. my utilities folder is intact and the terminal app is working now. but for some reason both the standard and vurbose will still not open.

can you run the Disk Utility? if that does not run there are several other options we will have to try to fix this, the "owner" of the files here are not correct.

disk utility is up and running. there is a 'diskos1' and a '74.5 gb st98823as media'

did you have the disk utility check the perms? this should take a while

the verify disk permissions are faded and unclickable. even when disk is already highlighted. all 4 buttons actually, verify & repair are all faded

ok do you know your admin "root" user password?

we will need to do a few commands in terminal

after you do the above it will ask for your password type that and press enter
then do
