PlaneShift Portrait Contest
« on: February 01, 2009, 07:27:02 pm »
4-17-2010: Cancelled, unless other leadership decides to finish and complete this.

In the spirit of community involvement, the Art Department is pleased to present you with ... another contest!

PlaneShift Portrait Contest : Summary

Been itching to decorate your guildhall with some new scenery? Wish your artistic skills could be immortalized in-game? Here's your chance!
We're looking to add in a few picture-items, and some quality artwork is all we need.
There will be two categories - Scenery, and Character.

Scenery - Content should be primarily landscape. Players or NPCs may be permitted in the scene if they are part of the background, and not the focus of the picture.
Character - One or more characters as the subject of the picture. (Multiple characters are permissible, but the Art Dept. advises you not to go overboard and clutter your image).

Three winners will be chosen for each category.
1st Place - [Large] The creator's picture will be featured prominently in either the Gugrontid or Ojaveda tavern, and sold by NPC furniture retailer(s).
2nd Place - [Medium] A copy of the portrait-item will be given to the character or guild of the creator's choice, and sold by NPC furniture retailer(s).
3rd Place - [Small] A smaller portrait will be included for sale in NPC furniture retailer inventory.

And of course, there are some rules...

PlaneShift Portrait Contest : Rules

1. All winning images will become property of Atomic Blue Corp, for use in-game. Sorry, but all in-game work must abide by the content license, including fan-made work. The license may be found here.
For winning submissions to be valid, winners must sign and fax pages 4, 5 and 6 of the license to +1-831-677-4686.

2. Submissions must be PG-13 or tamer. No nudity, gore, sexual or excessively violent scenes - the usual taboo. Failure to abide by these guidelines will result in disqualification.

3. Quality! Submissions must be at least 512x512 pixels (800x600 resolution or higher is advised). Screenshots are permitted, but may not contain any GUI - including a minimized menu (Use "/screenshot nogui", or crop your image).
-Do not include any text, marquee, or writing on the image. An exception will be made for an artist signature, which may be placed in the bottom-right corner of your submission, and must resemble an actual signature. No logos or watermarks.

4. Lore! Submissions should be Settings-friendly. No hot-pink hair, dragons, modern technology, etc.

5. Have fun! ...That's an order, comrades. ;)

Contest will run until February 28th March 31st and end Midnight, EST.

As the amazing image posted by Charlie66 seems to have scared alot of people off by being so fantastic, I have decided to lower the tone a little with a screenshot ;o)

Not really sure what category it would fit into really, so I shall leave that decision to someone else.

Charlie66 you are very talented. Nice work.

Pizik nice screen shot of the snow. I remember that and it was fun.

Okay, since I'm not the artist who made this beautiful portrait, maybe I shouldn't be the one who nominates it. But since it features my character, I decided to do so anyway. :D  It's made by Gluonite. He's a team member now, but since he wasn't when he made it, I guess it counts as fan art.
By the way: charlie66, your Hammerwielder is beautiful!

Apropos... I wonder if Karyuu will ever complete Mirey's portrait.

So why would NPCs start selling the artwork instead of artwork created by others? Apart from that, it is a nice idea featuring nice pictures.

Nice, Zweith. :)

UPDATE: Due to the... slow influx of entries, I'm extending this to the end of March. C'mon, give it a shot folks. No one said they had to be suitable for the Louvre. ;)

Greetings,

Some time ago I spoke with Baldur in the IRC. He claimed that I make good landscapes. I'm here to prove him wrong. :) The picture's quite big, but then again you did ask for quality. You could either resize it or divide it into multiple smaller paintings, if accepted at all.

Story
Somewhere in the bronze doors area Tind Gloevenhand, a crazy dwarf, gets an idea to paint some. He climbs up on one of the cliffs there and spies the local fisherman in action. The spot seems as good as any for painting, so Tind opens his backpack and takes out his magic painting set. He then yawns and goes to sleep! Hours pass, and when he awakes, the magic painting set has drawn a picture for him.

Download
Tind's picture. (6,5 MB)

Thanks,
- Cherppow

Sorry Kieve, I realised just yesterday that landscapes are allowed too... (the topic is slightly over-specific, or incomplete).

I already have some ideas how to make pretty landscape pictures. I just need to wait until weekends to work on such...

Okay ... art.

Well, I am a technician, not an artist. So nothing here is handmade. Techno isn't unplugged.
