A big step towards that is to quit whining and roleplay. Quit whining about how PLers ruin your roleplay experience and make sure everyone enjoys roleplay. That isn't really that hard, people love hidden plots and ways for their character to interact. Some may not know that yet however and these must be shown the truth. Oh, and everyone who thinks camp banished is a place where your character can die easily should go there instead of complaining about the evil PLers.

I don't get the sense that people are whining or blaming PLers.

:D Verden, if just playing was enough Planeshift would be packed at all times simply due to high numbers of players. Not that we need an easy answer just something a little more that show up. Like an event.... Although I have to admit it is hard to think of a non RP event for this.

What if players agree to pay money for defeating them. Say two players square off and they agree that the loser pays the winner X amount of tria. Money is an excellent motivator and since grinding isn't an problem on that server, there should be plenty money floating around for use on such things. And as you progess in PvP skills you might want to make your payout higher for the people that can beat you. So say you have 2 really good PvPers, the loser might pay out 100,000 tria instead of say 100 tria.

Thought we were speaking there about roleplay coming back on Laanx on that last one, Illysia. Some have started, one guild is buying platinum in game, which is more for the community than the guild with the house has done on that server. Adding the EZPC entry to the client on the next update will help. Yes, there is a community on the new server. Its starting, but present. Various other tournaments and events won't do much if there are no players over there. In the end, the player has to want to play the game for anything, including RP, to be effective.

Another strategy would be to hold a dueling tournament on Fragnetics, but secretly the real reason for it would be RP.  The tournament could turn into a murder mystery, for instance.

The murder mystery concept is one that seems to work well in RP. Get a GM involved though, and have a trial followed by permanent deletion of the character. I don't mean delete any player's character, but make it seem like that is an option. Make it seem like anyone could be the murderer and anyone could get perma-death and more people will listen up.

That's nice and good guys but remember that the thread is actually about expcusa, not RP on Laanx. That's why I'm asking about ways of attracting interest there. It's good to brainstorm in a group and eventually someone may implement it. I'll be perfectly honest, I personally will not be spending any great deal of time on that server but I don't see why those of us who won't play on there much can't try and help those that will.

Not that you can't have RP on that server but the whole permadeath thing sounds a bit tyranical.

You would create a character for the PR, or get a volunteer. :)

You know, PVP is for more than one thing besides silly tournaments.  Just because you can win a tournament doesn't mean you're a good PVPer.
It has nothing to do with being a good PVPer it's about attracting people. Events attract people. If you can come up with a better event like a guild war then fine but the idea is to get people interested, not trying to find who is truly the best at it. What do people always say to RPers, "Quit whining and do something about it."   :P This is just one suggestion on how to do something about it.
Are you sure?  I always believed it was good game mechanics that attracted new players, not events.  To someone who is not familiar with PlaneShift, events are supposed to be a way to draw in revenue from players.  As far as mechanics go, it currently lacks many things that would allow people to execute better PVP tactics.  For example, all of the spells in the game that I know are working are either direct damage or heals, and even among the ones that do not work there are no stuns or mutes.  It also lacks elements that force people to assume certain roles in combat, for example some buff that would make your heals 35% more effective while making your physical, magical, and pet attacks deal less damage.  As far as I know it's impossible to make such spell/potion/item effects because the engine doesn't support it.

PlaneShift has yet to see any group organize into a solid PVP unit.  Order of Daggers might have been, but I don't believe they even did any basic PVP tactics such as spiking.

The point really was is that for EZ-PC all you have to do right now is show up and play.

That's what I am talking about, if people played planeshift for mechanics and PvP then you would see a better developed PvP community. Also, I'm pretty sure it's the screenshots and the back story that actually bring new people to Planeshift in particular. ;)

@Verden and the problem is still convincing people to do that. :) Which leads back to how to do that.

Don't try to convince anyone of anything. Make a character and play.

Why don't people play on it?  The whole place is empty!  More people should come over.  Its great and has half the latency...

just hoping I might create a movement... ;D

Comments?

As most of our community I think Madoring just wants people to join in him in game. I have felt this way each time a friend has left the game. So what is the answer as to why more people are not playing on this server?

I don't play that server because I prefer Laanx where the RP rules are in effect. If RP isn't rampant on Laanx, there is no reason to expect to get into good RPs on ezpcusa, especially since "Lol I killed you." Is perfectly acceptable on Ezpcusa.
