A snark ("snide remark") is a form of satire. Not sure what you want to discuss here...

Snark tends to be more sarcasm and spite, almost ridicule of a event/place/thing.

Satire is changing some aspect of an actual event/place/thing to highlight, often in a ridiculous way, what is really there.

Anyhow snark and satire aren't the same thing, they are close sometimes overlapping.

I'd go so far as to say snark is approaching being it's own "art" today.

to me, Snark is a mean comment intended to not further the discussion in a positve way, ususally to derail it.
satire would be less mean, ususally just trying to be funny.

Spamalot= satire.  weird al = satire

yo momma comments = snark.   Ad hominum attacks = snark


Sarcasm tends to be snarky, since it does not further the debate and it ususally can be taken as insulting, one way or another, but is funny, at least to the teller.

Satire I believe is at least intended to be obviously a joke, and should be harder to take offense at.  So do lumberjacks take offense at the "I am a lumberjack" song by Monty Python?  maybe.  is it obvious it is just a joke, and that Monty Python did not mean to offend them?  I think so.

Parsing someone's words to find something to be snarky about while ignoring most of the content of their post?  not satire.  My opinion anyway, eh?

Satire is ridicule. Snarking is as well. Generally more out of irritation than humor.

Its also a certain type of graph... and a sailboat... and a Lewis Carroll beast...

Snark(y) is a word parents use to browbeat their rebellious children.  It frequently means shut up and go to your room before I get out the hairbrush and spank you with the business end until your tears wash the floor and flow out onto the street. What ever possessed me to have children, I never should have let you see the light of day. If I hadn't been so weak as to let your mother's tears betray me life would be so much better now.

Satire is the preceding. What exactly I am satirizing is not quite clear. Bad parenting I guess.

One of the best known (at least where I am from) examples of satire in literature is "Animal Farm" by George Orwell. It is not spiteful, it is not terribly rude. It is even a interesting story in its own right... but it is a humorous recreation of a particular political movement... and points out how hypocritical that system is and how it came about without being incredibly dry and boring like most history books are.

Snark on the other hand... has almost no literary merit... and is most frequently employed by "shock jocks" on the radio to improve their ratings.
