Want to manually download updates
« on: February 25, 2009, 08:41:47 pm »
Hi, I use a 56k modem to play, but have access to a fast (5000k) line to download files (like the client).
Trying to update, I found that updates seems almost as big as the client.

Is there a place where I could download the updates, and put the files in a place where the updater will find them?

Tip: Windows client.

there is no way to manually download the updates that have been released after a release has been made. Even if you tried there is no gurantee you will have all the correct files to play with.

Caarrie is right, manually downloading the updates may not be feasible at this point in time. However, you could also install a client on the PC with a better connection and update it every time a new version appears, then zip it up, and copy over the version you have installed on the PC with 56k connection. Please note this is not a supported way of updating and it will may break the install on major release cycles, so always keep a backup. Your logs, etc are stored in a different folder, so they should not be affected in any way.

Another thing you might want to try is to install the game on a usb keydrive that way you do not have to install something on the machine at work/school. It might take some finagling to keep the local copy up to date but you could probably just play of the keydrive wherever you are.
