Planeshift the Movie
« on: March 29, 2009, 01:08:14 am »
Someone suggested in another thread using celebrity voices for PS, which isn't going to happen.  However, assuming you were casting actors/celebrities for PS, who would you cast?

Sharven - Gary Oldman
Harnquist -Alexander SkarsgÄrd
Allelia - Guinevere Turner or Gretchen Mol
Amidson - Natalie Portman
Zak - Stuart Townsend
Jayose - Kenneth Branagh
Levrus - Alan Rickman

Personally I wouldn't use anyone living.

As an aside thank you for splitting off from the other thread where it didn't really belong. As far as your objection about the assets goes I do not see a problem with applying whatever license to your original work even if it is made completely out of fair use clips. There is a certain threshold for duration under which no residuals are required. When you see all these hip-hop artists paying license fees it is because 1. it is cheaper than litigation and/or  2. their samples exceed the threshold. At any rate it is a kind of grey area.

How about Mr. Dress-up for Malko and the Friendly Giant for Gurgus?

The PS license dictates that material used in PS must not be used anywhere else.  So if we had fair use clips, you could use those in a mashup, but you could not use them in PS, because they had been used somewhere else previously.  PS's license on assets dictates that all game assets must be 100% original.

Really? How do they manage to use the latin alphabet then? I'm pretty sure it is not 100% original to planeshift. For that matter, the music arrangements are made up of the same notes other music uses, how can that be? I know I've seen some of the words elsewhere, in fact I'm using some right here. Am I contravening the PS license? Does that mean they cannot record a budgie to create a birdsong sound effect? Then there is the pesky matter of color spectrum, in an rgb world there is only something like 16 million colors possible how do they manage to avoid using ones other people have used.

Then there are the quests: has no other game ever had a jilted lover or a stolen boyfriend? What about an unidentified sword or an unreturned book? Why are we even arguing about it? I guess I am just bored and won't concede unconditionally in a lost cause quite so easily.

How about Herve Villechaize (sp?) from Fantasy Island for Trasok and Lee Marvin for Zak?

Don't know which of the Dwarves, but one of them should be Billy Connolly.

I dunno, I think having re-animated corpses providing the voice-overs might be very interesting.

I, personally, want to see the "making of..." more than the movie itself though.... </me sits down with popcorn.. "ok, let's see how they made this thing..">

of course if they use zombies, that might hurt the dialog:  "braaaaaaiiiiinnnnnnnzzzzzzzzz...   Brrrrrraaaaaiinnnnzzzzz!"  "no, no NO, the line is "welcome to Yliakum"!  hehehe
