it would really help if you would list more info like what exactly goes wrong, what are your PC\'s specifications and (pretty importaint) which OS you\'re using :]

I too seem to have this problem, i just downloaded teh program, ran the config. Set it up on 800x600.

It doesn\'t show the back ground image, only white. the buttons appear, but nothing else. Then it crashed back to the desktop sometimes.

Here\'s my system (LAFF AT IT!!! FOR I AM POOR AN OUT OF WORK!!!)

Processor: Intel PIII 600E
Ram: 393 Megs of Pc100 Ram
Vid: Voodoo3 3500 TV

yes.. laugh.. laugh at it\'s remarkable age!

hey folks,

it helps (as hook already mentioned), if you post all your system specs (including the memory of your vid card) and the OS you are using (like win98, winXP....)

to your spec s Hypnotic, they may not be state of the art, but it should run...
You may want to even reduce the resolution to less than 800x600, though.

I guess you are running Windows...;)

One more hint: Try to d/l recent drivers. Since for the voodoo chipset there are plenty of different drivers available try to find one, that works best for you (some may be incompatible, some may be very fast, some of better picture quality).
But also try drivers not from the manufacturere (have a look at http://www.voodoofiles.com or http://www.3dfx.com.

In general it is good to deactivate all unnecessary crap running in the background (only turn on the most necessary things, like a virus scanner or a firewall)

Sorry about that, yeah i run Windows 98 Se.

Anyway, i\'ve tried all the stock and 3rd party drivers out there, and i can\'t seem to get it to run right. I managed to get a screen shot of the loader, it says \"no CEL enviroment specified, it also says something about - parameters not being set. It also gives me an error with a set of drivers that is unknown. It just says the PS Client caused an issue. I wasn\'t running anything in the BG either.

When i go to load the program, it just displays a white screen where the picture shoudl be, and it cant display pictures at all. I have a problem with sim city 3000 that is sort of like this, but thats a whole different issue.

Once again:

Processor: PIII 600E
Vid: Voodoo 3 3500 TV AGP
Mem: 393 Megs of Pc100 Ram
OS: Windows 98 Lite, no I.E. intergration.

Go me!!!!

I believe that this is not a problem.  When developing I have a CEL environment variable set that points to my CEL development tree. It does this so the psclient knows where to find the shared libraries ( the .so\'s or .dll\'s ).  However, in the release package all the dlls are in the main directory so it does not have to look for them.  We will try to remove that warning in the future since it is misleading.

For the unknown drivers that is also not a problem. They are for image types that we are not using but Crystal Space is looking for.  Again we will have to remove those warnings.

This is a little more troubling.  I believe that this is a CS related issue so will have to check their mailing list archieves to see if anybody else has a similar problem.

Yeah it\'s totally weird, I wonder if my 3rd party drivers for my voodoo card, made by AmigaMerlin, arn\'t DX8 compatable. Oh well... This game looks quite nice, even in software mode. I got over the 3 FPS to check it out.

If there is any info I can send you, by all means ask :)

Just found out something
----

I assume that PSCLIENT.txt is a log, due to all the technical information inside.

Well, i\'m okay at trouble shooting, and i think i found something out of the ordinary.

just after it does

n.client: psEngine initialized.

crystalspace.graphics3d.opengl: GL reported error for glTexImage2D(): enum argument out of range

it then loads some XML, then has the same error all over again. Now i\'m no programer, tried that, but that sounds just a tiny bit outta place.

I wonder if the OpenGL support for the Voodoo3 isn\'t up to spec these days. It was never known as very good.

Also, the biggest texture size you can have on a Voodoo3 is 256x256; I don\'t know if planeshift tries to use bigger textures than that or not.

Where would i find out max texture size that my poor old voodoo can load then??

And then!!!

Is there a place i can check on compatability with voodoo cards and the Crystal Space engine.

I had this problem too, im running a pII 450 with a voodoo5, the game only shows the buttons on the menu just like above..

everything works fine in software mode really choppy but thats to be expected with a slow computer and no hardware exeleration

it sounds like the problem is with voodoo cards maby

.... i just got into the actual game with opengl, and it has texture loading problems on my computer (ie everything exept a fiew textures are white)

Windows 2000 and openGL
« Reply #12 on: May 20, 2003, 08:54:53 pm »
Maybe its service pack? maybe its the Gforce? cant run with openGL (have to use software rendering :P).
It says:

Runtime Error!

Program: c:\\archivosdeprograma\\planeshift\\psclient.exe

abnormal program termination

hmmm, were, its all... cant run with openGL...

AMD atlon 1200
256 DDRam
Gforce 2 Mx
Windows 2000 (without service pack, but within it dont work too...)

Thanks for any help ;)

the voodoo\'s are very limited these days (256x256 texture size, 16 bits per pixel), you can\'t really expect them to run the newest games.
Thanks a lot Venge...
