To AFK or not to AFK
« on: April 30, 2009, 07:55:54 pm »
This may be a stupid question, but is there any conventions in the game of how to go away from the keyboard for short periods of time? I completely understand why it's not good manners to shout AFK to all the world, but what do you do? Go to the bedroom in an inn? Or sit down perhaps (and then, how do you do that?)

You can type /away <message> to set your autoaway response.

Hello

I personally just try to look for a place where I'll disturb the least - bedroom in the tavern is a nice idea imho if you have the possibility/time to go there  :)
And yes, the /away is also a good thing (I think it's not a one or the other though, but rather a both)

.....also a saddle that won't pinch the tail. One day!

Thanks, guys  :)  I hadn't noticed the /away command, that's cool. I'll try to combine that with finding a quiet corner somewhere (though of course the tavern may be too far away if the phone rings or something). Good solution. I always thought it'd be nice if games like this had a /snooze command or something so people could intuitively see that it's no use talking to you, without breaking the general illusion... but I can see it may be a bit much to implement a special animation for that (then again, it's prolly something that a lot of people could use).

There`s also /sleep, in that case anyone nearby will know.
Or you could set a special shortcut with whatever message you wanted to represent it (to edit shortcuts, right click on them).
