changes to The Hydlaa Plaza forums rules
« on: May 11, 2009, 05:42:57 pm »
i'll move this thread to the forum discussion area in a little bit, but since people hardly ever read the stickies, I'd though I'd poke everyone to go read the new and updated forums rules thread I just stickied.

thanks!

Cool, new rules.  That was necessary.  What, with all the people posting here.

/thread locked.

* neko kyouran thinks someone didn't bother/care to read the actual new sticky.

here, let me quote both the old version and the new version:

OLD:
Welcome to Hydlaa Plaza! This board is here to provide you with a friendly environment where you can discuss things not related to PlaneShift with your fellow players. Community forums work best when participants treat their fellow posters with respect and courtesy. Therefore, we ask that you take the time to read through the Form Rules before posting.

Please note that off-topic doesn't mean anything goes. “Off-Topic” is not the same as “No-Topic.” (“No-topic” is a convenient catchall phrase for “topics” that are closer to spam than discussion.) Topics with little or no merit may be removed. We try to keep things loose, especially in this section - however, making excessive threads, wasting forum space for the sake of either mocking a particular thread or just being obnoxious is not acceptable.

Topics that are random or silly are okay for the Off-Topic forum - given that you provide an actual discussable topic for the thread. If you find a mod locking your thread because it lacks a topic and you believe it does have one, then PM that mod and discuss it like a civilized human being. Assuringly, you will be treated respectfully. Don't go and remake the topic or make one whining about how it got locked. That's something four-year-olds do when their Mommies won't buy them Popsicles ;)

Some of the types of threads not welcome here are:

- Bored Threads
- Counting Threads
- Threads that ask people to answer a question or list a favorite where the answer is only a short sentence, and no discussion is involved

A "question"-type thread that asks a yes/no question but leads to actual discussion would be acceptable. A thread intended for discussion but that descends into yes/no responses and random chatting would be deleted or locked.

That said, spam isn't the end of the world, and what many people think of as spam actually isn't. Calm down, everyone :)

Note: Posts of a Political, Religious, or Sexual Nature
Such posts are considered trolling, as they incite personal attacks and flaming, and the latter may be inappropriate for all ages. Do not make them. There are many places on the Internet that welcome such discussions; the PlaneShift forums are not one of those places.

Wasn't the "old" version a post originally made by Karyuu in 2006 but later heavily edited by Neko in 2008?

No, I didn't read them, and neither does anyone else...which was why I was having fun with you for updating something no one reads.  You can pretty much do whatever you want here, it doesn't really matter.

This isn't complete without a diff; I ran a longest common subsequence on the two versions and basically all the crap in the middle has changed.  Everything between "Please note that off-topic doesn't mean anything goes" and the last section has been reduced to two sentences.

It means that the restrictiveness nature of the board has been lifted.  You want to start a one of those silly forum game thread things?  Go ahead.  It's fine.

again:  "Topics that are random or silly are okay for the Off-Topic forum, so long as they are made in good taste."

:)

I'm leaving the note about Political, Religious, or Sexual Nature posts in a this time because I want to keep things "family entertainment friendly".

I'm using this forum area as an experiment.  If things go well, other changes to other sections may be introduced later on along the same lines of things here.

Enjoy the game and the forums.  Things meant for fun are well, supposed to be fun.  :P

Oh, and to answer zanzi's inquiry; No, I've never edited K's original post.  Over the years, other posts have been re-vamped and updated, but this particular one hasn't ever been touched until now.
