No attack selection for rats, or other mobs

As of today I no longer have an attack selection for rats, or any other of the other mobs.  I can walk up them and select them, but when I right click there is no attack seleciton.  It was working fine when I logged out lastnight.

I tried rerunning the updater, but no new updates were found.  I also tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the game client and rerunning the updater, but I am still having the same problem.

Sounds like the NPC client is down. (That is the program that controls the mobs).
So the problem isn't on your side, you'll have to wait until the program is restarted on the
server.

This happens all the time just be patient and it will be fixed.

I appreciate the replies, but it's been more than 10 hours since I encountered this problem and its still the same when I logged in a few minutes ago.  My initial thought earlier was to wait so that I why I didn't enter my first post until later in the day.  Now its in the evening and I still have the same problem.  I'll try again tomorrow when I have time and file a bug report if the problem persists.

Filing a bug report about the NPC server being down is of no use to anybody. As it is software under development, it has bugs, and is bound to crash sometimes. When it does, nobody (not just you) cannot fight the mobs anymore, so this kind of symptom is quickly noticed by developers. FYI, there is a sticky topic in this forum http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=21503.0 which, among other common problems, answers your question. You should read it.

I read the sticky before I posted, but the my problem did not exactly match the info in the sticky so I posted in this forum.  The fact that it does not match is also why I considered filing a bug report.  Even though some things can be similar I have found through experience that they can also be two totally separate problems.

Either way its really not a big deal, since its obvious that everyone has seen this problem before.  I can wait.  In the mean time I'll socialize in game for a while and have some fun.

You would have received the "impervious" message had you tried to attack the mob by targetting it and clicking on an attack stance (which is the usual way of attacking - the attack "dialog" button is only available at close range and after a delay of contacting the NPC server (I suppose) - which is why it's not the preferred way to attack).

Perhaps the missing attack option in the dialog options could be included as evidence for this problem in the sticky?

I don't know how much more evidence we need. It was doing so nicely too with the restarting quickly. That patch/hack to make it do that was a good try.
