Cannot load game

When I open PS, I can log in and choose a character to use, but when I click on "join" and the loading screen appears, the whole thing freezes when the loading bar is nearly full. A window comes up and says "The program psclient_static quit unexpectedly." What's going on?
I use a mac, and have always had some probelms updating PS. I can only manage it through terminal. I think the probelm might be that my version of PS it too old, but when I try to update it says that there's nothing to update. In terminal, this is the text that appears:

might be. what is the verion you are using? and did you download or build?

the version is 0.4.03. But what do you mean, download or build?

given the question is being asked, most likely download.

basically did you download the client through torrent, website, etc. or did you build it from the source code?

I downloaded it. I used to play PlaneShift about half a year ago, but then it started acting up, refusing to load some regions so I stopped playing for a while out of frustration. Now that I feel like giving it another go, things have gone worse. Could the problem be that my OS is too old? I have a mac mini that runs on Tiger.
