strange evolution
« on: October 13, 2009, 02:00:44 pm »
After few years, i'm back to Planeshift.
And what i see ? A strange evolution in the game, its developpment... I don't understand. Is this game touched by the "Benjamin Button" syndrom ? (start good enough to release, then become more and more unfinished)
It was barely better few years ago : graphisms, sounds (there's NONE actually), animations, commands. Soon the game will turn into a project on blueprint.

And, in the "tutorial" zone, i'm totaly blocked. Don't know what to do, where to do, how to do, and how GET OUT OF THAT PLACE. Just a first npc start talk to me and... nothing. No option, no command, nothing more than one bubble from him and end of all.

You need to read whats inside the bubble and follow that NPC's instructions   ;D

Start with the Diaboli/Ynnwn female "Abelia" ( I think that was her name )
If you exited during the tutorial and don't recall where you left off then check your logs.

Hi there.

I don't quite get what you are saying in the first part, but regarding the tutorial, the answer is simple:

Quote
Don't know what to do

Read!  ;)

Abelia (the first NPC gave you clear instructions.) If that doesn't help you, try the walkthrough in the
newbie area.
Tutorial walkthrough for the RP server
Tutorial walkthrough for the non-RP server

(Edit: Yes, Rigwyn was faster, but I come bearing links  :P)

Exactly what i've done. "welcome, i'm here to help you[...]be sure you use the npc chat tab" No other instruction, and when i click on the right chat tab (NPC), end of all discussion with the npc and nothing more.
If i say i can do nothing, it's because i can do nothing. Even such instruction : -Say "yes" if you are ready- doesn't appear.

Come closer, and say Hi.
 type "Hi"

Quote
... or, the more traditional phrase around here, 'give me a quest.'
-> type "Give me a quest"

And so, on  ;)

Those instructions do appear, trust me. You just need to start with Abelia and follow the
instructions step by step. If you rush ahead to the next NPC before time, it won't work.

Did you type "hi" in the window attached to the "MAIN" tab or in the window attached to the "NPC" tab ?
NPC 's only hear whats typed in the "NPC" tab.

Try using the HELP tab to ask for assistance. It might save a little time.

If your close enough to the npc that your nearly stepping on her toes and she does not respond to you typing in "hi" in the NPC chat box ( and pressing the enter/return key ) then something might be wrong.

You must have the NPC targeted

"May there only be peaceful and cheerful Earth Days to come for our beautiful Spaceship Earth as it continues to spin and circle in frigid space with its warm and fragile cargo of animate life."

When a game needs a tutorial for the tutorial... something is desperatly wrong.

When the game didn't even have a tutorial, it was even worse.  Countless amounts of threads being made all simply about players not having any idea on what the they should do after just being tossed into the world.

Then the first revision of the tutorial world came along and the threads were drastically reduced.

Like all things, the tutorial system is a work in progress and you will find it to be much improved with the upcoming new release.  These things just take time to develop right. is all.  :)

Yet the tutorial hasn't been edited since I started playing in January....

...save for one line for the EZPCUSA server.

The new NPC system should help things a little.
