Question about Dakkru and Death
« on: November 09, 2009, 06:15:18 pm »

I have a few questions about making offerings to Dakkru..I was wondering if anyone might have some insight.

1. When a Dakkru worshiper kills someone as an offering does it need to be true-death or is regular death an acceptable offering ?
2. If an offering is made to Dakkru from within the death realm is that death considered death ? Do all such offerings need to be done topside?
3. Are animal sacrifices  acceptable to Dakkru ?  ( ie. Rats, Carakas, Grendol )

To my understanding true death is simply when the body does not go to Dakkru's realm, so Dakkru has nothing to gain from it.

Actually, one of the Four Revalations of Dakkru is "All who die the True death are Yliakum's gifts to Me." (in the Death Realm library)

true death is when dakkru completely takes the soul. the body is no longer attached to it... i believe..... idk

Ok, there is no question that true death counts as an offering. But what about smaller/lesser offerings ?

Doesn't Dakkru take a *toll* of some sort each time character passes though the death realm ?
( One particular group is careful about not killing unnecessarily for this reason alone )

Wouldn't the plain death of a character be considered an offering then (to a lesser extent) ?
Following the same logic would Dakkru find an animal sacrifice pleasing ?

My reason for asking is to ensure that some planned RP does not violate the settings.
To put the reason for the questions into context I want determine whether it would make sense to role play a Dakkru worshiper who:

  a. Makes ritualistic true-death offerings on rare occasions ( This would be a major RP event )
  b. Makes regular-death offerings now and then ( This might be a more casual on-the-fly type of thing  )
  c. Makes animal sacrifices more frequently. ( This might be part of his way-of-life.. ie, he might RP slaughtering a gobble in exchange for good luck or something)

*Pokes Rigwyn to go read the Death Realm books*

Quote
Henceforth all passing through My realm shall pay of their life essence to sustain it.

So, you kill someone, Dakkru takes a part of them, so any killing of people I'd imagine would make her happy.

Offerings of animals and non-true-death death are all welcome.

I'd been wondering that as well. Good to know my character can just kill animals for Dakkru.  :sweatdrop:

One more question, though: Do people that live in the Death Realm pay their toll at regular intervals, or is their entire life as well as their eventual true death a sacrifice, or...well, how does that work?

As best I can recall, under normal circumstances someone's aging slows down drastically in the Death Realm, however, should they return to the living world all the lost time catches up with them. (unless it's during a crystal eclipse) but I might be completely wrong.

According to the books one can live forever in the DR but is bound forever to the DR, leaving causes all the years missed in wotl to catch up immediately.

Picture of Dorian Grey Style.

As shadow said, crystal eclipses are the exception for the "Age-bound"

Wait, so.. does that mean; you leave the death realm, it's the crystal eclipse, you don't gain those long-lost years? Or do you end up gaining them after the eclipse ends?

With an eclipse you can wander anywhere you want, but only during the eclipse. After if your not back in the death realm I imagine you drop dead on the spot or crumble away to nothing, or both one after the other.

My take on Dakkru would i guess be similar to Hades of the Greeks, or Kali for the Hindus, not necessarily evil or gory,
you could even say that Jesus is the western god of death  (not trying to troll Christians, im just using examples)
(ithe last church i saw had a gruesome display of him on the cross above its entrance like they often do)
I guess it makes me look at what Dakkru and her worship would be in a different light i guess..
