Someone placed small potted plant on the chimney of Harnquist's furnace
About tents. These would be welcome also for merchandise, at least the small ones (like the one near road to arena with books on the table).

He could go up and into Kada-El's chimney.

I think it would be nice to have a new type of tent for this.
The medium tent that's currently ingame IMO isn't quite right for someone to sleep under, it's nice for merchants, though. The big tent it's just too big for a sole individual, and better for mounting a camp.
Maybe something like the classical triangular type (called "Canadian" type here), with space for two characters:

you mean an A frame? those are cozy (i like to sleep under the stars though). and about collision detection... the flapthings might be hard to climb through. so something like http://campinginfo.org/gfx/tent_aframe.jpg might be less of a pain.

Also note that there's no "lie down" animation, although some races "sit" is appropriate, not all races could in fact lie in a tent, just as those with the nice sit animations to lie can't sit in a chair properly.

Tents and campfires... I want a portable guild house!  \\o//

Back to serious mode: Too modern a tent would damage the medieval atmosphere. No light, portable, individual tents. Nothing you would install and uninstall in 10 minutes. I think people should sleep in open air... Just give 'em a bedroll.  :)

And large tents could require a skill to setup. (?)

ummm, tents aren't a modern thing, khoridor. i'd imagine they were pretty common for medieval travelers considering earth wasn't totally populated by civilization back then. and i'm sure bad weather existed then too.

tent-making skill? lol no, doesn't require skill irl anyway

Seems to take the average city dweller an hour.

Sarras, easy setup tents -are- a modern thing. It would take more than an hour for even an experienced camper to setup a tent in medieval times.

just use a water-tight tarp. it should be simple. yliakum's weather hardly requires anything sturdy or complex.

akaiddo, did you ever set up a tent in medieval times? no? i didn't think so.  :P

I have set up pre medieval tents (viking a-frame tents) many times, and it takes max. 30 mins to set up a large one. It does not require much skill either. But making these tents does! You need knowledge of the right fabric to use, woodcarving to get the frame right and you need to be an expert tailor to get the stitching water tight.. so, a set of tent making skills would be appropriate, but not a skill to set it up.

If you want this thread to be productive, i suggest you discuss how to prevent abuse of these large items. You could also search the net for images of tents that could be used as inspiration for future implementations. Then it will be up to the devs to do something about it.

Let it be known the Irishman is an inspirational man.

1. Limit the number of tents allowed per character to 1.
2. Only allow Game Masters access of large tents.

3. Set the NPC cost of tents at the minimum of 20,000-40,000 tria for the smallest size: why? one reason I can think of below besides the overall prevention of abuse.
A. Read what katu said about the difficulty of making tents, so the price is reasonable.

tents and fires are a good idea, but could be changed to a different type (im thinking oblivion, resting)
this would regain health mana energy etc. would change the time, (this would most likely be for more the "non-rp" people)
Possible to have permanent tents in some ares? With a fire you would have to light yourself, then you can sit and talk, or go to sleep.
sleep would offer 3x health energy mana regen speed, sitting down would offer 2.5x standing up would offer 2x
Therefore resting in these ares is a relativly quick heal, and would benifit group exploration.

@ of course weltall, i didnt quite think of that XD

the problem is you can't shift all people clock because you are having a nap so would be either you wait or you can't shift the clock ahead :) it's a multiplayer game unfortunately :P
