I also think it's better to meet people ingame if you need help with something. The game is loosing a bit of it's romance when Yliakum's secrets are easily shared in a public channel.
Harnquist's has always been a good place to find a helping hand and make new friends. I think it's simply more fun for everyone when roleplay is going on.
A good blacksmith teaches his techniques at the anvil.

I also agree it's better to give hints intead of outright answers. And if you want to give outright answers or talk [out of character ;] it's better to switch to a /tell indeed, so not everyone can 'hear' you.
The main chat should read like a book. ( also not forget to turn your head to the one you talking with, that's more polite ;) )

It is pretty clear what a spoiler is indeed if you just take a look on wikipedia

I think that the channel is abused, [like we were not already expecting that] People discuss too many OOC crap, and yes i know that is what it is mostly for, but i think that it is a good place to tell information about something that is going on during RP when you cannot say it on the main because that wouldnt make sense. Instead, people just say "Hey where is this and that, and what do i do for this and that?" And that is almost every discussion that is ever on the channel. This makes it so that you cannot even let your RP accusations and questions be answered because of flooding of spoiling.

I think that we should all use the channel for the word that is beside it **{{GOSSIP}}** Things that we do not know are true about a character, and things that we are not certain about with the RP going on around. Henceforth, when somebody is not sure about the truth, they...GOSSIP!

And I think that if you want to learn all of the spoilers of the game then join a guild. I'm sure they will powerlevel you for their benefit. [This last statement does not have to do with all guilds, just some of them.]

"What is a spoiler?" ... A question of definition.

Q: "Where do I get a golden ring?"

A1: "Go to merchant XXXX and ask: YYYY." - Clearly a spoiler.
A2: "I believe there is a merchant in ZZZZ - go there and ask around." - Already too much a spoiler to be punished?

IMHO, a little help like A2 should be toleratable, as long as it is vague enough to require additional efforts.

About the purpose of the Gossip channel:

I don't like how much OOC talk you can find there - and which kind (e.g. political and rude jokes). Every feature which can be used, can be abused. But to know it it is ab-use, requires to know that there are rules about it.

"You threw them before us, but did not tell us that they are pearls." - related to the proverb "throwing pearls before swine".

A2 would be ok. I really don't want to see this boil down to a more and more nuanced discussion though.
