   I applied to do artwork, and was turned down.  Possibly it coincided with the "PS is now hiring" notice.  But I didn't, and still don't, want a job.  I simply wanted to draw the flowers that are in-game, as an artist and a volunteer.  I still want to.   
   So maybe you are getting more offers of help than you realize.

it depends on the department they are run by different people and so different outcomes. for example engine is understaffed we keep everyone who applies but most fails even at building the client (if you can do that step is useless joining you need a client and server for it)

Talk to Botanic or I, we have plenty of things that we need help on (especially me, at the moment). I think if you were specific that you only wanted to draw flowers, that may be why you were turned down. If you branch out and tackle projects that are in the areas we need help, then you'll succeed.

On further note: I was turned down at first when I applied, but when the team saw that I could knuckle down and do some work, they reconsidered. Sometimes you just have to wait, and contributing while you wait will get your name recognised.
