It's CLEAR!!!!!
« on: May 11, 2003, 03:07:42 am »
Man I\'ve been blinded all this time. I\'m finally free from the treacheries of the gun!

Okay I think I rather have arrows now here\'s how it would work.

How you get one:
You can buy one or make one.

How a bow and arrow would be made by skill:
You get someone to cut down some wood, then you get a fletcher to carve the wood into the bows base. Then the a carpenter to attach the string. then You can get the arrows by first getting a woodcutter to get some wood, then a fletcher to carve the rods of the arrows, then a smither to make the arrowheads.

Prices:
Here\'s the only way I can explain, here\'s an example

Regular Bow and Arrow:
Bow Base: Regular Wood
String: Cotton Yarn
Arrow Rod: Wooden
Arrowhead: Iron
Overall Value: Cheap

Bow and Arrow of the Gods:
Bow Base: Ivory
String: Stallion\'s Tail
Arrow Rod: Gold
Arrowhead: Mithril
Overall Value: Expensive

That\'s the best way I can put it, in terms of how it can made, the parts it has, and how it can be priced.

Whoohoo!  Thank the deities folks have gotten past that \"gun\" thing...*shudder*

Right, arrows;

The way you\'ve described is horribly complex, and perhaps a bit too intense for just a mere bow and arrows.  I think a fletcher should have access to most of the items for making a bow; they can make the arrowheads out of stone or metal without needing to be smiths, and it should be something only fletchers can do.  They can harvest oaken staffs and use a tool to make the bow itself.  The strings wouldn\'t be made out of yarn, but probably sinew.  The shafts also would be shaped in a fletching kit or something similar (I\'m drawing of Another-Game-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named, here).  This would cut down with a lot of running round and allow the fletcher to actually be able to do something other than just stick bits together to make up a whole.

Combinations and pricing is up to the crafter, and as I\'ve proposed in my crafting techniques thread, may even be a special \"recipe\" per fletcher.  Perhaps a Ynnwn fletcher has a special bow and arrow recipe that will not harm the race when it\'s touched (as they have aversion to certain precious metals).  Indeed, race-specific bows may be worth having (the name eludes me for the water-dwelling race, but a speargun-like crossbow may suit them better underwater).  That sort of thing.

Just my two bits.

Ya it is a bit too complex, because I mean, it\'d take like 2 hours then to make a regular bow. We can try to reduce the parts, so it\'ll be easier to make.

I don\'t think it should be easier - but I think that making bows with all it\'s components should be the fletcher\'s job - and there would be no need to run around everywhere because the fletcher would be able to gather or create the resources herself.

Crafting shouldn\'t be \"easy\" as there should be some definite reward for going through the work of learning the craft, but too much running around and the main thing only being putting all components together smacks of mere assembly work, which is dull.
