Not seeing my model
« on: February 06, 2010, 10:59:45 pm »
Yea , So after a whole day I finally got the server up and running and tried the game in it , the game works , except for the player model not showing up (and possibly the npcs aswell) . If anybody would have some kind of explanation as to why? Or if you want me to post something that could help you find out why please tell me.

there were no compilation errors.

Compilation errors, huh?
It's likely to not be showing your model 'cause you use an illegal client.

You may be breaking the law, like Judas Priest in the 80's.

Not so harsh...

Zencro: If you downloaded the sources from SourceForge and built your own client (which is allowed without modifications) and your own server, you will not be playing the game on the official game servers, because all the required art (models, textures, etc.) will still be missing.

Instead, you should have downloaded the precompiled release from http://www.planeshift.it/download.html

The game software is OpenSource; the game content instead is licensed. You could use the sources to build your own game from there, but you would need to make all content on your own.

Of course it is allowed to build your own client...you are just not allowed to connect the laanx or ezpc with it.

But the compiling guide explains how to install the art from the binary version in your self-compiled.

From a PlaneShift installation

If you have previously downloaded a release package, you can use it to get the data. The data is in the "art" and "data" directories. The only thing that should not be copied is the "data/gui" directory, because the contents downloaded from the SVN are usually more recent and updated.

And no idea...but I guess you have to mount the characters.zip file in the server also to see the models....but really no idea about that,

Yes, there are a few XML files required to get the art "mounted to the virtual file system" correctly, and the images registered.

Not so harsh...

That wasn't harsh, was meant as a funny post.
This would have been harsh:

learn to compile the client and you actually qualify for the cheater status for being a lousy tester :)

and zencro why are you still here and still trying this game i'd say there are other MMORPGs even wow is better like i've linked but the best i think is the old irc client. uses even less power and there are no npcs to show (i can run a laptop in it at 13w)

Of course we heard of it, it's the most important tool for a man in a relationship to not forget the deadlines for buying flowers for Valentine's Day, keep track of when to do the dishes again once a months so that she can't complain you are not helping or just know when it's better to hide for some days. ;)

True indeed, it's a big, big, VERY BIG mistake!!! Never give me your back. ;)
But I didn't mean to spoil your pubertal fantasies letting you realize I don't play myself in RPGs.
I'm so appalled to be different than you.

Ah, and thanks Neko for removing my link which made the post above make no sense at all, here it is again. :)

using the quote function to make it look like some one else said something that they never said is a no no.  i just removed that part to make it a regular quote.  it's not my job to make your post coherent, its simply my job to make sure the rules of the board are being followed.

The link was there right for that reason. Without the link, it actually looks more confusing to me.
But never meant to make it look like other people said that, just make clear it was an analogy. ;)
