ridiculously armored mobs
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:17:14 pm »
ok, I have supported this game through a lot in the year I have been playing it. However, recently there have been some new changes to the mobs.  I love the new mobs, but even more recent than that they were upgraded. Apparently, the upgrade was to make them unkillable.

I need a consumer leg for a quest. How am I supposed to get a consumer leg when I can't even hit them, but they chew me up. I can't heal because they run as fast as me; I can deal with that. I still lag out during battles if my daggers are in training mode, so I can't dodge the consumers like usual. Here's the real kicker, between lags and strikes. I did exactly zero damage, please explain this to me when I have over level 70 dags.  I am really frustrated, I liked the consumers before the most recent upgrade of mobs. They were tough but not invincible. Please don't tell me group hunt them, I should be able to quest without having to beg someone to go hunting with me for quest items.
Don't godmod me and we'll get along fine.

Yes. very frustrating how the mobs are unkillable. I have level 70 swords and the following monsters are unscratched after how many minutes of hitting them:

Vilenauts
Maulbernauts
Maulberlords
Sand Arangma
Imago Consumer
Vilneshi

Even using magic is better. I can hit them 33 damage  :-\ At -least make them hittable. like 20 damage or somthing
Tloke Drone

I understand that daggers should not do as much damage as a sword or a battle axe. However, a person skilled in weapon should still be able to kill something effectively, though perhaps a smaller weapon might take more hits to fell the creature. A dagger is a very lethal weapon for killing anything. The point of the skill is that you know how to use it effectively to kill your prey.

The devs request us to think of diversity when creating our characters. I have always RP'd this character as a hunter, that earned her way up to bigger prey. Now all of a sudden she can't kill the same velnishis that she killed yesterday?

@ Rigwyn: Daggers are a very legitimate weapon to kill creatures of any size or shape.  They are daggers, not butter knives.  A character wielding a dagger can move faster to find the soft spots on a creature, it just takes a little more finesse. Also the training with the weapon gives the user the knowledge of how to use it effectively.

@Bilbous: There are vulnerable spots on all animals wearing shells. So if a dagger can't be useful than neither can a sharp edged sword.

Well I don't know what i suggested is correct but it is a lot easier to crush through armor than to poke or slice through it. A lot of the new critters do have hard shells (including the expert gladiators) so it would make sense.

Not yet implemented though cause Krans are somewhat resistant to Swords and if you said above is true then it is times two. the armour plus their rocky body but you can smash them with torches, hammers, maces, etc.

I agree with E , this is going to make new players not want to stay and even well trained players leave. If you want this to only be rp and no killing then just go ahead and take away all mobs and weapons then we will all just sit around and talk. Oh well.

Bilbous, the velnishi and the consumers are soft skinned monsters, perhaps a little tough skinned, but not armored.  True, it may be easier to smash the carapace of a shelled monster, but that does not mean that someone skilled with a blade could not kill them. Even in medieval times, knights in full armor were killed by sliding blades between the plates of armor, including a dagger.

This current line of logic that swords and axes are better, is simply going to take away players intiative to use other weapons, and all adventurers will be killing with swords and axes again. All because it is the only weapons that can hurt the big mobs, this seems like a step backwards for the weapons system. *shakes her head with disappointment*

I was rather annoyed when taking my usual shortcut to Oja, I was almost killed by a tiny insect.

They just need rebalancing and tweaking.

a consumer? i could easily hunt consumers when i was a complete noob... i didn't know they were even supposed to be a challenge. weird.

i haven't had much experience with the new changes, but no animal mob should be that strong or invincible. animals don't wear any kind of protection but hide, which should be very light defense against blades. and square cube law should apply to all these uber powerful rats and bugs. this sounds like a joke.

There's already a collection thread for problems with the rectn changes on mobs:
http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=36836.0

To keep consistent it will be nice if ALL npc complaints or suggestions end up here until the re-deployment is done. We'll be adding more and fixing what is there for the next....forever... so feel free to pile your issues up here.

Best,
Minks

also the difficulty level of the various mobs was changed so what was difficult before could end up easier and what was easier before could end up more difficult. consumers were supposed to be a bit more dangerous than what they were and they are so replaced in the right place
