Hi-five to those who posted Pan's Labyrinth and Clockwork Orange :)

I agree with a lot of the titles mentioned so far .. I especially like movies with strong symbolism, strange twists and scary stuff.

The Game
The Silence of the Lambs
The Exorcist
Rosemary's Baby
Saw
Hostle
A Haunting in Connecticut
Eyes Wide Shut
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Exorcism of Emily Rose  ( I liked the wicked scenes.. the court room stuff kinda put me to sleep )
The Changeling

A few extra-cheezy B grade flicks:
Basketcase
Rollerblade

Almost forgot:

Requiem for a Dream
Pink Floyd The Wall  (musical film)  -- A must see if you like depressing, trippy stuff
Jacob's Ladder
The Amityville Horror
The Children of the Corn

Heh .. guess I have a preference for horror ... funny how you sometimes perceive things differently after you've written them down.

@Rigwyn I can tell you have a great taste in horror flicks. I was glad to see The Silence of the Lambs, The Exorcist, and Rosemary's Baby. And when you were talking about "The Changeling" did you mean "Changeling" with Angelina Jolie?

another addition to the additional movies I have to see from post is Clockwork Orange.

Here is one movie i have to add to my favorites:

The White Ribbon [Germany-has English Subtites] I just saw this the other day and thought it was really unique, but left me hanging. It did however, give me the feeling that i was watching a classic the first time I was watching it (even the trailer for it said that!) It's won a number of things internationally, and i thought it was really good to have a black and white movie come out in 2010.

No Country For Old Men
[U.S.A] It was a great thriller, the acting was phenomenal, and the suspense built throughout the entire movie!

Yes, Changeling- with Angelina Jolie
I thought she acted incredibly well and the story was excellent.

She blended into the move so well that I forgot that she was in it :)

Here's a few classics that no-one has mentioned yet:

The City of Lost Children
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Amadeus
Killer Klowns from Outer Space  ;D
Any early Jackie Chan films (Drunken Master is particularly good)
Bagdad Cafe
The Blues Brothers
The Straight Story

Hope you enjoy :)

The Amityville Horror

New one (Ryan Reynolds), or old one?
I think the new one is a very good one. Finally a film that will make you afraid :p

I'm a huge movie fan, so I got alot of good movies (and some terrible ones) on my mind :)
Also agreeing with many films already mentioned, so I will just mention some of my favs that I haven't seen yet. First a few obvious ones:
Shawshank Redemption
Saving Private Ryan
The Dark Knight
The Green Mile
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (NI!  )

V for Vendetta
The Girl Next Door  ;D
Eurotrip
Also a big fan of Quentin Tarantino movies

Norwegian movies: "Mongoland", "Mannen som elsket Yngve" and "Max Manus".
Going to the Iron Temple makes you as much of a Laanx follower as going to Harnquist makes you a furnace.

I was actually referring to the original.

Saving Private Ryan had a really crazy opening... It really left me thinking...

Oh, i forgot that I love The Dark Knight, and V for Vendetta, they are my favorite "comic book" movies.

New movies to mention:

Precious: I have to say that this is a great movie, with extremely good acting, and cinematography. It's probably the best acted movie of the 2010 Oscar movie nominee's in my opinion. Here is the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5FYahzVU44

Little Miss Sunshine  :D : I have to say that this is one of the best comedies of the 2000's and it's touching to add to that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWyH_twcMl0

Napoleon Dynamite: Why have I not seen this movie on the fav's yet? It's hilarious. I couldn't control my laughter duing this movie and everybody in the theater kept looking at me. Here is one of the many funny clips from the movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On2BMf0E-uY

All of these movies are personal in some way to me, so I have to say watch a trailer before you watch the movie. It's up to you to decide whether it's for you or not.

Rigwyn, your choice of movies scares me... Probably why I haven't seen any of those movies. ;D I lean more towards cute and funny movies.

Warning: Long list...

  • Avatar[US]: Avatar has moved up to my favorite movie of all time for many reasons. It may be a formula movie so are a lot of them. I happen to like this formula.
  • Last Holiday[US]: This movie with Queen Latifa and LL Cool J is very sweet. Kinda a unconventional Cinderella story.
  • Cars[US]: Also sweet with a good story. Tow Mater however is the biggest reason to love the movie.
  • The Princess and the Frog[US]: A really good movie aside from the creepy parts. Not too fairy tale or too Disney, at least not when compared to other Disney movies.
  • Hero[China]: Cinematically gorgeous and interesting in the direction of the plot progression. My biggest problem is the ending which to an American can easily seem out of place if compared to the endings of American movies.
  • Curse of the Golden Flower[China]: Also cinematically gorgeous. Love the look. Don't care for a lot of the plot thread and certainly not all the blood, but I love the look of it.  Has the same ending problem as Hero...
  • House of Flying Daggers[China]: More or less the same as the other two... ending included....  but it is interesting from what I saw. I unfortunately missed chunks of it. However, it has Takeshi Kaneshiro... so umm... yeah.
  • Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon[china]: Pretty, but to me it's not as stunning as the others. However, I think it's more realistic in the coloring of the scenes... Again with the ending...
  • Legend of Zorro[US]: It has some slow parts but overall it is a good funny movie. Gotta love Tornado. He's a great actor. ;) Not to mention it has a really nice soundtrack.
  • Ironman[US]: Liked it's cause it was cool... not because of the plot. :P It strikes me as a definite guy movie... it's about the cool, not the talky stuff in between the cool.
  • Die Another Day[US]: Not a big Bond fan but I do like this movie. It kinda got me interested in James Bond for awhile. Love the scenes in Havana and in the icy northern parts of the world. Love Rick Yune... in spite of in movie appearance and love Will Yun lee.
  • Star Trek[US]: Second Favorite movie of all time. I was surprised by the whole spock and uhura thing, but I can go with it... sorry if spoiling but considering all the hoohaw on the internet about it I just figure it's up there with knowing who Luke Skywalker's father is... you should just know by now. XD really nice take on the old 60's designs. Everything looks modern without severely deviating from the original look and feel.
  • Phantom of the Opera[US]: Fabulous movie... It made me go see the play and I had absolutely no curiosity about the story at all. I didn't even want to go see the movie at first. Love the costumes, better than the stage versions in my opinion. Love the signing, Gerard Butler's singing is a bit jarring at first since he isn't an operatic singer but it works. Patrick Wilson has a gorgeous voice and so does Emmy Rossum, but I'm partial to listening to guys sing.
  • Finding Nemo[US]:Cute cute cute fishies!
  • WALL·E[US]: This movie is so cute and sweet. I was actually rooting for WALL·E the whole time. Happy to say there is a proper ending for this movie.
  • Princess Bride[US]: I like this little quirky fairy tale. The book is fun to read too. I think the best parts are the author commentaries which were put in the movie as well.

Well, finally ran out of movies I could think of. I miss most of them so I can't say I'm up to date aside from a few this last year or so. XD

House of Flying Daggers' Cinematography > Hero's Cinematography

Hero's Story > House of Flying Dagger's Story (I don't care if that makes me a "commie" for saying so, it's true. :P)

If I had to choose between the two, I actually liked Hero better... I'll almost always pick story over style.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

That was good ! I don't remember much of it but I do remember enjoying it .. Oh yeah, and people defying physics. :) But I didn't care.. I reminded me of those old 70's kung foo movies where Shao Lin monks did that sorta thing all the time.

Some other enjoyable movies:

Les Misérables ( Movie version )
Bubble Boy ( kinda off-beat humor )
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes er eh .. scratch that XD
Beverly Hills Cop
Lethal Weapon 4  ( I remember laughing almost non stop )
Throw Momma from the Train ( Billy Crystal )

For those Enkidukai fans, the musical "Cats" was put on tape/dvd. I haven't seen the tape, but I did see the play many moons ago on Broadway.

Okay, "Cats" were friggin loopy, and the crawled towards the audience too much! I mean they were very acrobatic and such, but they just got a bit too close to me.  :whistling:

So Princess and the Frog was good? I was debating even watching that movie because of well...Disney[sunk at the turn of the 2000's], but maybe it won't be a disappointment if I see it. I do need good critical analysis proof though. Oh, and I really need to see "Throw Momma From the Train" again, I haven't seen it in ages, but i do remember it being funny.

Oh, my personal favorite children movies:

-Matilda: Made me laugh, inspired me, and I was glad to see children reading. :) Really a classic, and the book was good to.

Lemony Snickets A Series Of Unfortunate Events Just a really good movie that was and has been different than anything I've seen. Really good job on characters, and conflict. [don't want to post the trailer cause it makes the movie look childish]
