Favorite Video Games
« on: February 23, 2010, 04:42:29 am »
This thread is very similar to the other favoite book/music/movie threads. Make a list of your favorite video games, and include the game system it was on, the genra it is, and a short description of why you love it so much.

My top five:
Kingdom Hearts: PS2, action RPG
Who knew that a game which had Cloud Strife and Donald Duck standing right next to each other could be so rediculous yet absolute videogame crack :D
Final Fantasy V
SNES, RPG
It is incredibly addicting once you really get into the complexities of the job system. Even though the story sucks, I love it to bits :D
Jak 3
PS2, Action
This game has all the great things a action game should have: Big (censored) guns, puzzles, vehicular combat and racing, secret unlockables, bad*** superpowers (Dark Jak FTW!) and a great storyline that brings a fitting end to a great trillogy.
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wii, Adventure
This game appeals to those who love puzzles with it's elaboate dungeons, those who <3 chopping things to bits with a sword, and those who love getting every item in a game. :)
Final Fantasy VII
PS1, RPG
This game has a great story, among the best in the series, has a huge magic system, great characters, and is an unforgettable experience
And one more thing: SEPIROTH!
I'm not insane, I'm just eccentric. Now leave me alone and let me hug ulbers in peace. :D

Haha so many favorite posts XD

Okay so games...

Planeshift, because i love you all

Final Fantasy X because it almost made me cry in the end  :'(

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Everybody says Ocarina of Time was the best, but i disagree, i think Majora's mask had the most originality in the series. I mean, you play the same three days over and over again yet you discover new things. ORIGINAL!

Mirrors Edge: Runners are great, and i could never do what they did in that game. The gameplay was great.

Donkey Kong 64: IT was my first game ever, when i screamed with joy over getting a nintendo 64 when i was a little kid years years ago, which was my first console.

Pokemon Yellow: I got it on the same day i got Donkey Kong 64, so i could say that was also one of my first games. I spend endless hours with my companion Pikachu  :D

Roller Coaster Tycoon series: They are so much fun and let me relax and create a world of an amusement park.

and finally Farmville, because it wastes my time <3

Note: I have a feeling Final Fantasy XIII is going to be incredible, and i can't wait to get it. I'll have to see if it lands in my favorites.

Lol I'm going to get addicted to these threads!

Scaler
PS2, Xbox, Gamecube
Platform
ESRB rating: E

A boy who gets trapped in another dimension and gets turned into a chameleon like lizard. What else can I say! I enjoyed this game since it had a nice variety of gameplay (you later can turn into different types of creatures) not a lot of puzzle but it has a neat little storyline and even a bonus ending (which I earned, go me!)

Spyro: Year of the Dragon and Spyro: Ripto's Rage!
Playstation,PSN (apparently)
Platform
ESRB rating: E

I enjoyed the original (except for the first game) series. It had a good storyline and a lot of places to explore and whatnot. Not too much variety of gameplay (move, charge, breathe fire) but still fun to play :)

Call of Duty 3
PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox, Xbox 360
First-person shooter
ESRB rating: T

So I have to mention the game that got me hooked onto the Call of Duty series. I loved that I didn't need to get health packs (good gods I hated running around looking for them) and it was a FPS that I could actually beat! I like the separate storylines for each country and I just got addicted to the music, especially the menu music.

Medal of Honor: Frontline
PS2, Gamecube, Xbox
First-person shooter
ESRB rating: T

Here it is, the game that got me hooked onto FPS. Well, I actually never beat the game lol. I was a bit young so obviously I freaked out when your commander orders you to go do something by yourself. So pretty much, I never beat any of the levels except for the first one XD well, then after that I got a cheat book and put everything on so I could run around and actually beat a level. I still enjoy thinking about the Golden Lion. Ah, good times with drunk German soldiers eh?

Meh, it's bed time for me right now. I'll post more later :)

COD 4,5,6... All of them are spectacular. I play them multiplayer on my xbox live. I also love the NBA live series, the MADDEN series, the NHL, and the MLB series. Oh, and lets not forget PlaneShift :)

;D dralion's too young to have played the games we have

1. legend of zelda: ocarina of time (n64) - does this need explaining? best game ever. i used to think its graphics and music were amazing  windwaker and twilight princess are pretty cool, but they can't beat the original

2. call of duty (pc, xbox 360) - cod2, waw, and mw2.... addicting. slightly unrealistic, but... ZOMBIES!

3. oblivion (pc) - weeeheehee! CONSOOOLE!

4. left 4 dead (xbox 360) - ZOMBIES!

5. warcraft 3 (pc) - my frozen throne is fubar'd  :'(

6. fallout 3 (xbox 360) - radioactive homicidal maniac?

7. fable (pc and xbox 360) - first one was "borrowed" right before i could finish it, and now it's lost  :@#\ second one is too short.

8. world of warcraft (pc) - OH NO SHE DI'INT!

9. golden sun (gba) - both of them, never finished the first because i screwed up

10. super smash bros (n64 and wii) - pwnage

11. mirror's edge (xbox 360) - didn't last as long as i hoped, and was kind of frustrating, but still cool. the plot was kind of creepy, like the international

12. metroid prime (gc and wii) - haven't finished any of them since i'm easily distracted, but i'm far enough along

13. old pokemon and zelda games (gameboy) - first games i played... oh the memories! which i can barely recall now.

14. snowboard kids (n64) - rofl

15. pokemon stadium (n64) - this game was epic

16. pokemon snap (n64) - lol, played this when i got sick on a ski trip

a lot of these aren't favorites, now that i think about it, just memorable games. but i guess that's what makes them favorites. there are several others. i forgot their names though.

right now i'm stuck on some castlevania game, but that could be because i'm blind and my ds is falling apart. i tried to jump across these platforms with medusa bats flying at me for hours.... maybe i oughta give up lol

@Sarras I really didn't think blind people could play games, but you stand in exception  :D

-I love the Pokemon stadium 1&2 and Pokemon snap, because they were tons of fun!

-I disagree with you somewhat about Legend of Zelda OOC being the best, but that's just my opinion. I think Windwaker had the best music out of all the Zelda games, but it overall wasn't as good as MM and OOC.

-I think many posts on here don't have enough games from the golden age of gaming: the N64.

As for more favorite's:
Gex series: [N64] because it was funkish and funny!
Banjo Kazooie [N64] because of rhyming witches and gophers with glasses.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City [PS2] because i could kill hookers and pimps, and then drive away on water.
Death Jr. [PSP] Hardest game i've ever played, but it's really humorous and memorable because it was my 1st PSP game.

Funny how things change over time.

I remember when space invaders, asteroids, pac man, defender, and centepede were hot stuff... ( You laugh eh ? )

Galaxian was the new space invaders,
Millipede, miss pacman, and gorf replaced these...

Crystal caverns seemed cool but then all this wcked 3d stuff started coming out.

Remember doom(original), rise of the triad, descent 3d, creature shock, stonekeep ?

Anyone ever play pyramid, raka tu, or bedlam ?

I have an ego so large it has it's own gravity. So in short, yes, everything does revolve around me.

So....

-PlaneShift because it is the only video game I have ever found that still truly engages the imagination. Spoiled we are these days with all these flashing lights and ringing bells.

-Mousetrap because I was obsessed with the whole Heath Robinsonness of the construction.

-War, ah! The days of a stick with a nail in it for a gun and running through the neighbors gardens and hiding out on the local industrial estates shooting imaginary bullets at each other..... who needs CoD?....

-Frogger because we manage to program a version of it in Basic on a Vic 20, oh! the good ole days.

-Manic Miner because the C64 was aaammmaaazzziinngg at the time.

-Elite, need I say more commander Jameson?

-Doom for the 486, fantastic times and a realization of how video games eat up your time.

-Runequest, a real Role Play Game :)

-Drinking games because we were young and stupid.

-PGA Golf on Sega Megadrive, many a happy an evening with freinds.

-Final Fantasy VII on PS1, I loved this story, awesome game, totally engaging.

-Gran Turismo PS1, two games, two Playstations, two TVs XD.

...... Oh! Go one then. CoD, all of them, on XBOX 360 are such fun but not at all good for you.

THE HYDLAA DRAW because it is the best game ever anywhere at anytime, get your tickets from the House of Games.

Happy Gaming Everyone.

LEGO Indiana Jones/Batman/Star Wars
Nintendo DS, Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Xbox 360 (about the same for all 3)
action-adventure
ESRB rating: E10+

I kind of grew up using legos and knex. So I was pretty excited when they first released the star wars game. The game play is pretty much similar in all 3 (with the exception that the special abilities of the characters are different) and it's fun to try to find all the canisters, red bricks, and money. It's more fun to play with a friend in my opinion and I'll always be a fan of lego :)

Endless Ocean
Wii
adventure
ESRB rating: E

So setting aside all the combat and exploring games, this is a pretty casual game that pretty much anyone would like. It's quite relaxing and has some pretty music (as well as you can play your own music too!). The basic story is you're a diver and you go around discovering new types of fish, new pets, and find valuable objects. There's even a storyline your character can participate in too! You get to explore deep sea trenches, caves, and even sunken ruins! This would bore the hardcore gamer but it's a nice game ^_^

xenogears. It has a great depth and makes you think. unfortunately the american version was heavily censured you need an amatorial translation or japanese knownledge to get everything. but still quite enjoyable also on the official english translation
