Rogues in Ojaveda, and PPs
« on: March 01, 2010, 06:00:54 am »
1) Rogues in Akkaio disar Ojaveda are set to a wrong setting. They would more be scared of attacking people as Akkaio is a rich and wealthy Disar, and so it should have high security and what not, so rogues should not attack people, people should start the fight first.

2) The new Progression Points is NOT working, honestly! 2 PPs from a trepor (from me and i nearly died!) or rogue is not enough! I have noticed drops in noobs from this because they cannot train well enough to be able to travel from Ojaveda to Hydlaa and are finding less interest into Planeshift. If most of you haven't realized, the player community come and go, there is like generations in Planeshift, from Noob to normal then oldbie, noobs there are loads of them! normals there are average amounts of them, then oldbies, not many around. if we don't have noobs staying then no normals in future who then train the noobs so no noobs and so on. So it is left to the small amount of oldbies to pick things back up. (you probably won't understand that).
You maybe roleplaying but you could still be OOC.

for once i agree with vaka, i havnt been a newb for about a year but i have some noobish alts, and i've tried killing some monsters, while i have less then an eighth of my health left in the end, fighting rogue trepor and such like that, would only give me 2-6 pp each..its not worth it..

with that making some new players, not so fond of playing, it takes away the chance for some regualrs to meet new people or recruit, or make a new friend...
personally i didnt really mmind the pp change since i already have over 76k of pp..
but i can understand how the pp change is unfair to the newcomers...
i think it should definitly be tweaked to a higher ammount...

I have been playing beginner characters for a while now and I haven't really gotten to a point where it is worthwhile to do much fighting but I have been busy doing errands to build up a bit of surplus pps. Fortunately I managed to start with high strength and endurance so that all the running around hasn't been too much trouble. It has been a bit of a problem for me that the only npc weapons I can buy are not ones my character started with the skill and my armor skill is heavy armor which I still cannot wear.

Still PS game development is cyclical, it will be too hard for a while and then it will be too easy. We just seem to be in a hard part. Just because the trepors were wildly underpowered for the amount of pps they offered and it was what you were used to does not mean they should have remained that way. After all 10 pps for a critter that could not hurt you when you were wearing leather and had just a little skill and that could be killed with q50 weapons and a similar small amount of skill was never likely to last. It was the same with the easy ulbernauts in the crater.

I am certain there are still some critters out there that are not too hard to kill and give a fair amount of experience, you just have to find them.

By the way I rarely stop to fight anything between hydlaa and any other place I am going to, you can outrun any critter around and if you run out of fatigue while being chased you can log out and the critter will stop following you. Sure newcomers may die a few time before they get the hang of it but  it has always been that way. Give the critters a wide berth and there is no sweat.

the only monsters i can think of that most new players could fight are rogues, mabey some initiate gladiators, rats and some clackers, mabey a trepor, if im missing somthing add it
but things like consumers ulbers, those are even stronger then before, i havnt fought any recently but they wouldnt help a newb much..
then the spider things  even with 100 HA those things can bite me down pretty dang fast, they give ok pp but no newb will be able to beat one,
and the thing bout loggin to avoid monster chasings..
that doesnt work :P
so before a newb reads that, dont log out unless your on a rock!!!
i used to try the log thing back when i was a newb, yoou just log in, in DR its the same if the server crashes, or restarts, you log in, in DR they dont stop chasigng and attackin till your dead...

10PP for a trepor was fine for a noob I do understand a higher trained person shouldn't get 10PP but maybe on something else though. the problem is there is also a MASSIVE gap between someone with 0 weapon and armor to someone 100 weapon and armor, but what about someone with 50 weapon and armor, there is nothing absolutely nothing! other than what noobs feed off. the way it used to be was fine with the tefusang was an inbetwener (still is sorter), and a gobble that were by the river.

Its not that hard to change, you just need mobs for noobs (that will get around 10PP), and ones for intermediates (level 50ish weapon/armor, still get around 10PP but don't get 10PP from the noobs mobs) and then ones for the higher levellers (and the same for them). I do know about craft but I tried that but I could only do a little at a time till I get higher ranked but then I still wouldn't get that much PP it was rather stupid!.

If you are carrying too much stuff so you get fatigued real easy you are just asking for trouble.

I'm sorry but I just cannot agree that low level characters ought to be able to get 10 pps for anything. Ideally leveling should be at a fairly constant rate throughout the range of levels you can attain. Well let me qualify that, you ought to be able to get pps at a fairly consistent rate regardless of what you are doing. If you can get 10 pps a minute from killing a trepor then you ought to be able to get 10 pps a minute for mining or fishing or whatever it is you are doing. How long does it take to get 2000 xps from casting defensive wind? I'm pretty sure it is more than a minute, you might be able to cast the spell 10 times in a minute but you won't get 200xp (1pp) for each casting.

Of course the way the experience works you need a lot more experience to gain a level at 50 than you do at 10 so the situation is not ideal by any measure.

The devs have constantly said they are re-tweaking the NPCs according to player feedback.

http://www.hydlaaplaza.com/smf/index.php?topic=36866.0

Fill in that form and post honest, precise observations so that the devs can know accurately where the NPC strength is compared to players and what they feel they need to tweak.

My main has sword level in the 60s  and there are mobs where my main gets in the 8-15 PP point range. They are out there you just have to find them. Also with the current mobs sometimes you just have to use a different approach if you want Pps like using magic. Buffs seems to be more important now when attacking some mobs. Also grouping with a friend or two can greatly help with some of the stronger  mobs that give more PPs. As the game changes player may need to change and adopt what they do and how they do it.

And yes as Akkaido said the devs are always looking to tweek things based on player feedback but they need useful feedback, such as your stats and buffs and what damage you did and took. Just saying such and such mob is to hard doesn't give much Info to work with.

Uhhhhhhhg

Ok
1) thats what NPC refactor and you is about? I thought they were meaning making NPCs (E.g trasok) talk not mobs. Lol.
2) i never said no about having it for craft in fact i agree on the matter
3) ok a noob does not have any friends to group with and a noob does not know how to group to even start with, these thing ALL of you don't get! Let alone how would a noob just magically know where to go... Also... Again im saying it. Not just every player can
just sit on Planeshift ALL day. People have lives, beyond and more importaint than there ps life. Like me i have school, and im trying for a job .

Before this thread gets out of hand and Neko strips it clean...

We're aware there is a bug in the experience award - give us a minute to find it and fix it.

We're aware some are not attackable - we're looking into why.
** EDIT: figured out why, and fixed it

Do NOT list anything in forum that indicates what monsters give in loot or exp or what's strong and not.

Do NOT suggest ways to hang up or jam NPC's especially not ways to run them out of the map (bilbous - edit please).

Neko: remove spoilage at your descretion...I didn't spend the last month refactoring mobs to have it all poured out here.

this

besides the unplayable lag, this is the thing i hate most about planeshift. you must be an obsessive, sedentary geek to max out. well, i'm not that, so please give the people who still want to hang out with their real friends and get real work done a chance. i'm not going to waste 3+ hours each day training. it's unhealthy, boring, and a major obstacle for people who don't like wasting time.

besides sorry for akaiddo but there are more wealthy people and i don't get why rogues should exclude him. regardless now all on sight are disabled temporarily waiting for proper assignment of more advanced behaviours.

I am sorry that my talking about the game mechanics was considered to be spoiler material, sorry too that I wasn't able to comply with bovek's request in a timely fashion so that neko had to do it for me. I did not think I was suggesting ways to abuse the game mechanics as that is something I do not advocate. All I thought I was really saying is that  if you are attacked by an aggressive critter and you are not killed before you notice it then generally you can escape it. Of course characters with low physical stamina have a harder time.

Anyway there seems to be a lot more critters around and things look good, hopefully the more advanced behaviour will also include mobs losing interest once their prey gets outside some predefined range and return to their "nesting " site.
